The man with the
megaphone
by Daniele Silvestri
(from Before Being A Man – 1995)
A man with a megaphone spoke, spoke, spoke about
important things.
Unfortunately some passers-by, inattentively passing
by, seemed to listen to his monologue
Only at intervals, but the man with the megaphone
believed in his arguments,
Thus he went on, ignoring the frequent remarks of the
ones who took him for a madman…
But the fact is that he… suffered… he really…
suffered.
The man with the megaphone tried, hoped, strove to
pierce cement walls
And in the wind he shouted words about warning and
fight, but his voice was broken
And his coughing lengthened the pauses, it sounded
like he would be gone in few moments
And instead he recovered his voice again, his voice
again…
Comrades, friends! Let’s join voices! Justice!
Progress! Right now! Right now!
The man and his megaphone looked like they were apart
from the world, him being so thin
And deep as well as ridiculous. A look of a man who is
really concerned about something
And cries out a real agony, not because of a private
and trivial break-down,
But just because of love and hate, which give colour
and warmth,
Colour and warmth, but he… suffered… he really…
suffered.
Comrades, friends! Let’s join voices! Justice!
Progress! Right now! Right now!
