The fat lady –
Francesco De Gregori
I’m going to throw this huge heart of mine in the
stars one day
I swear I’ll do it
And beyond the blue marquee in the blue sky I will fly
When the fat lady becomes gold and silver
Without passing through the station she will take the
last train
In spite of the malicious and arrogant people my name
will sparkle
From the gates of the night the day will stand still
Some applause from the paying spectators will
highlight it
And from the cannon opening a song will be played
And with my hands, my love, I’ll take your hands
And without saying a word I’ll bring you into my heart
And I won’t be afraid if I’m not as pretty as you say
But we will fly in the sky in flesh
We will never come back
And with no hunger and thirst and with no wings and
nets we will fly away
So the fat lady, that huge mystery flew off
All alone she made her way towards the black black sky
Everyone closed their eyes in the very moment she
disappeared
Some swore again and again they had never been there
And with my hands, my love, with my hands I’ll take
you
And without saying a word I’ll bring you into my heart
And I won’t be afraid if I’m not as pretty as you want
But we will fly in the sky in flesh
We will never come back
And with no hunger and thirst and with no wings and
nets we will fly away
