Camry Turbo Project -- Turbocharged 1MZ-FE
March 8, 2006
GT4088R Installation
Briefing:

After driving the car through the winter months, the pipes under the car were unfortuntely destroyed by some rather deadly potholes.
Although the pipes were already high off the ground, they simply weren't high enough with the 2.5" lower ride height.  Most the pipes have to be redone; and with a few key factors, it was decided that a new turbo (GT40R) would be installed because most of the pipes had to be re-fabricated anyway.

- The new GT4088R is comparatively of equal size to the old technology T66 in compressor size (68 lbs/min vs 72 lbs/min)
- Dual Ballbearing CHRA is proven to offer superior boost response and quicker boost recovery
- The GT4088R uses both a larger turbine wheel and housing than the T66
- Although the GT4088R turbine  is larger, it boasts better response with a wider powerband from GT-wheels and DBB technology
- Newer style tangential turbine housing is proven to outflow and outperform the older style on-centre T04 housing
Compressor Cover was polished with
3M 5" sanding discs and pads:

- 120 grit
- 320 grit
- 600 grit
- 1000 grit (water sanding)
- 1500 grit (water sanding)
- 2000 grit (water/soap sanding)
- Finalized with Eagle1 Aluminum Polish

Turbine housing was prepped
(casting imperfections were removed) before ceramic coating.
