Camry Turbo Project -- Turbocharged 1MZ-FE
January 17, 2003
First Dyno Run:
The turbo Camry was strapped on the dyno and a couple of passes were made.   For the first run, the fuel curve was horrible and the Camry pulled 241 WHP and 240 lb-ft.  The air/fuel ratio was very lean and was hitting up to 14.2:1 A/F after 5000RPM (Graph not shown)
2nd Dyno Run -- DYNORUN .002
After tuning the SAFC, the air/fuel was much better across the powerband.  However, the air/fuel was still lean at 13.2:1 A/F.  The stock injectors were at 100% duty cycle (stock injectors are 280cc/min)    The SAFC tuning managed to pick up an extra 19 WHP.
3rd Dyno Run -- DYNORUN.001
The fuel pressure was raised from 45psi to 65 psi.  This time, the A/F was much nicer being at  12.8:1 A/F most of the time.  The final numbers were 268 WHP and 269 lb-ft @ 10psi of boost on stock CT-26.
Project Turbo Camry Baseline Dyno Results @ 10 psi
268 HP @ wheels equals to approximately
340 HP at the Flywheel (22% Drivetrain loss from A/T)
Dyno Date:  January 17, 2003
Setup Includes:
- Stock CT-26 Turbocharger @ 10psi
- Custom Intercooler
- 2.5" Turbo Down-pipe
- 2.0" Turbo Up-pipe
- 2.25" Exhaust (old exhaust)
- Apexi SAFC Piggyback
- Stock Catalytic Converter
- Stock Exhaust Headers
- Stock Auto Transmission with Levelten PTS Converter
- Stock injectors (Fuel Pressure at 60 psi)
- Stock MAF Sensor
- Engine Knock Sensor defect (5 deg BTDC Timing across powerband)
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
The Camry's stock knock sensors were found to be defective and oversensitive after the turbo install.  As a result, ignition timing was automatically retarded to 5 deg BTDC across the powerband by the ECU.  The knock sensors were then relocated and a tremendous increase of power was noticed.  Stay tuned for future dyno runs with many more changes to the car -- Higher boost (14+ psi),  upgraded fuel system, engine management, and of course, a bigger turbo.
