The Pittsburgh was a 16322 ton ship built for the American Line in 1913 and launched in 1920 due to World War I. There was accommodation for 600 cabin and 1500 3rd class passengers.her lenght 574 ft., had 2 funnels, two masts, triple screw and a speed of 15 knots. She entered her maiden voyage for White Star in 1922.. The ship was renamed to Pennland in early 1926 and remained in service until 1939. In April 1940, the ship was chartered by the British Ministry of War as a troopship. She was serving in that role when she was bombed and sunk in the Gulf of Athens on 25 April 1941. |
