Throw out Bearing/ Pressure Plate Identification

The top 2 photos show the early style throw-out bearing. Note that there is no cone in the center of these transmissions and therefore you MUST use an early style pressure plate with this bearing. The pressure plate MUST have a ring in the center of it for the bearing to contact. The ring looks like a big washer.


The bottom 2 photos show the late style setup. Note the guide cone in the center of the trans. You MUST use the late style pressure plate WITHOUT a ring in the center with this setup. Some pressure plates are made (Both the diaphragm and the 3 arm) so you can just remove the ring and use it on the late style setup if that is what your transmission is. The later setup is stronger and better.
