I have always liked animals. I have learned about the fight for animal rights. Part of it I learned from the news and part actually on the street. I had heard about the experiments on kittens at the Museum of Natural History in NYC and it was unbelievable. I couldn't believe anyone could be as stupid as to experiment on them and for no reason hurting them. I saw two little old ladies at a table outside the museum with materials protesting it. Soon it was taken care of, stopped and kind of swept under the table.

Later I saw young women going wild with pictures of rabbits being used cruelly to test cosmetics at Revlon. They stood with pictures outside the building. Soon Revlon had stopped animal testing or seemed to and I was glad of it. Many companies still use the tests. The teacher at Clairol had talked about using them, stopping but using if necessary. The woman had informed me of this in a nasty way.

Later I saw girls in animal costumes pretending to be caught in fur traps protesting the fur use in NY.

Also I had read that and Penn Univ or State one of them they had been using apes to test auto crashes. The experimenters had been laughing and bothering them and someone taped it and got it stopped when they found out about it. So these things can be worked on. There is no reason for it.

I don't think England tests on animals.

The carriage horses are very much mistreated in NY. If you have lived in the country and see them there and how they can barely pull the cart it is terrible. They get the horses from the Penn Dutch and I wish they would stop it all but there's no way. Some are mistreated more. Mary Tyler Moore is one who is worried about the horses. You would never know in NY that anyone is worried. More than once I have yelled at one of the drivers that was whipping one of them and it is just horrible, the tourists don't notice it. There is supposed to be a limit of people in the carriage too but you see them all piled in and with fat tourists. I have seen other carriage horses like in Phil. that don't seem to be doing so badly.

I have listed the animal protection film office. Unfortunately the animals are not fairly treated sometimes or just an accident happens because they are not watching. I would not let them use a pet. They may fall all over them sometimes. Some horses I just heard were killed in accidents on Flicka that was filming there.

I had read before of an AD killing a turtle on a Clint Eastwood movie who was I think let go because of it. He did it to get it out of the way and threw it. They are just uncaring and don't know how to treat animals.

When I was at the Bronx zoo before I don't know if it is better now I was appalled at the treatment of the apes there. The poor things were sitting in a row there and couldn't go much of anywhere. They seemed almost like men. There is not much difference. It is just as if it is not activated in them.
