I am partly Mohawk so I am interested in this as are a lot of people. I am in the US. My relatives had moved to Canada and said it was because of them bothering and then later the kids moved back.
I met an Apache girl in the army who was younger and became kind of a friend. She was more into the army and braided my hair. I didn't know she was native am at first and I thought she was PR oh no. She liked the dork girls that were there was the thing and wanted me to talk to them and I didn't. I do feel I used to be Apache before.
The native americans in Portland, Oregon are the nicest ones I have seen. There was one with a crutch talking to me going oh baby do you like me like I like you? I have not seen many Mohawk. We did go up to Canada before as all the family does but not really near the reservation. My uncle and son used to and some in the family still are. I really wasn't able to.
I have not really known that many native americans. I met a Cherokee dancer at a temp job that invited me to powwow (and others) where she was going to be in the Thunderbird dancers.
I of course knew John who was 1/4 Blackfoot and a descendent of Blackbeard.
The Indian extras (some) were talking about some of the stars not being really Indian. They weren't really that Indian.
Cher is part Cherokee on her mother's side and did not know her Iranian father. I like her ok. Shania is 50% native from her native american father having adopted her and so on.
I also look at the white side of things to be fair and a lot of people don't lately. They used to say that there were good and bad on both sides.
The Indian (not really) other temp not dancer who was really called paleface insinuated the Indian women were all raped. There was trouble on both sides. That was not the case with my ancestor.
