·       Give S an idea about their mistakes. Write the corrected sentences on the board.

·       Give back the WB. S open their books 5-6. S write corrections near the mistakes.

·       S rewrite the letter again on WB/6 with out any mistakes.

 

 

·       Ask: When is the passive used?

  1.  When we don't know who does the thing.

  2.  When the persons who do it (a thing) are not important to us.

·       Write on the board:

 

Children's toys contain hydrocarbons.

·       Elicit the S, V & O. draw arrows showing the directions of the action.

They were covered by rock.

·       Say: In the passive, there is no subject.

·       Say: The passive is formed by using the correct tense ands form of the verb:

 

                                                        be + the past participle (p.p.)

Drills must extract samples.

·       Ask: Is this sentence active or passive? Before the answer, I'll mark: S, V & O and draw arrows to show the direction of the action. The answer is: Active because it has a S, an O and an O.

·       Ask: Who can make this sentence passive?

Point to the verb (extract), ask: What part of  the verb is this? base form: The base form is the verb without 'to'. Ask: What is the base form of the verb 'be'? be. Elicit the passive sentence:

Samples must be extracted by drills.

·       Open PB/7, S read aloud the explanation and examples in boxes A and B.

·       Introduce might = possibly and ought to = should.

·       Turn PB/8/box C, S read aloud the active sentences with modals. Others change the sentences into the passive.

 

·       Dictate 3 sentences from PB/3.

HOMEWORK:

Rewrite writing the letter WB/5-6.
