·       Open PB/3, ask: What is the passage about? How many paragraphs are there? What are they about?

 

Write these Q's on the board:

a. What are hydrocarbons? They are substances formed/made from hydrogen and carbon. L:9-10 

b. What are satellite picture an example of? They are an example of modern technology. L:13-15

c. What is the difference between crude oil and petrol? Crude oil is mixed with other substances. Petrol is a pure substance. L:31-33,37

·       S take (03m) to read the passage silently and answer the Q's. Elicit the answers and their lines.

 

·       Say we are going to look at 9 new words in the passage, the 1st one is: sank, show S its card, S find it in the passage, (L:4). Ask When they died in the sea, did they go up or down, to the top or the bottom? bottom. Say: sank is the past of sink. S look at page 49 to sea the IRR V.

·       S find: rotted , (L:5) ask: What happen when the living things die? Do they stay the same or change? How do they change? They rot= become bad.

·       including(L:6) S read the sentence without including, say: it is as = like, for example or other things

·       structure: (L:16)  What word means the same as it? = shape or form.

·       underground: (L:28) ask: Where do the drills go? underground.

·       remove, (L:35) Do you add unwanted substances or extract them? extract.  remove = extract, take out.

·       pure, (L:37) = without unwanted substances, not mixed with other substances.

·       such as, (L:35) = for example or including

·       butane, (L:38) Is it a gas, a liquid or a solid? a gas Where is it used? in the Kitchen

 

 

·       Write these line #'s and reference words on the board:
