· Open PB/2 the Arabic introduction. Ask: How many units, lessons are there? 6-8. What always happens at the beginning of Lesson 1? It begins with a discussion. What are we going to discuss today? Oil. S close there books. · Put up poster 1: ask: 1. What is oil called when it comes out of the ground? crude oil. 2. What is crude oil? What is its chemical structure? Say: In chemistry, capital letters describe basic substances. Ask: What does the letter H mean? (hydrogen) The letter C ? (carbon) These letters are called symbols. 3. What symbols do scientists use for materials that have both hydrogen and carbon in them? (H and C) When carbon and hydrogen come together, they form hydrocarbons. 4. Where does crude oilc ome from? under the ground. How is it found? look at pic1: What does it show? a map which shows the earth under the ground. Point to the rocks, ask: What are these things? rocks , What shape are the rocks? like waves, say: This is a geological map which shows the rocks under the ground. · put up poster 2: 5. say: This is an explosion. It produces vibrations in the earth. 6. point to the measuring instrument, ask : What does this instrument do? It measures the vibrations. What is the connection between this instrument and the map of the earth underground? The instrument makes a map of the earth underground. · Go back to poster 1: 7. point to the derrick and the bit, ask: What other things do they do in order to find out where there is oil? (they drill), 1st, they drill to find out more about the rocks. Then, they drill to find oil and extract oil from the ground. · Point to the refinery on poster 3: 8. Where does the crude oil go after it comes out of the ground? (to the refinery). What happens at a refinery? (they produce oil and other products. Ask How many oil products can you think of? (petrol, plastic, car oil, etc.) · Open PB/1, S read the 6 Q's there. Other S answer. · S close their PB, S ask and answer Q according to the posters. I’ll say: Ask about ....... · Open PB/3, What is the passage about? What can you see?... toy · How many paragraphs are there? 5. Write these on the board: 1 5 2 3 4 How oil is formed/ oil products/ finding oil/ drilling/ refining · Ask: what is para 1 about? It is about : How oil is formed. Ask: How do you know?(Oil began to form.....) Say: form is the v from the n form, S find the other paragraphs. · Show S the cards and ask them to read then define the new words. |
