PROCEDURE

 

OBJECTIVES:

1st.Preview the reading passage and introduce new voc.

2nd.Practise silent reading.

3rd.Introduce the present simple passive.

·       Open (show them) PB/4, ask: What is this? The Ka'aba. Who can read the title, How many paragraphs are there? 4,

·      S read the 1st sentence/ para 1, ask: What is the subject of the 1st para? The height and shape of the Ka'aba.

·       Do the same with the second para: The black curtain on the Ka'aba. (Kiswah)

·      Repeat the same Q with the 3rd para: Inside the Ka'aba.

·       Do the same with the 4th para: The sacred black stone.

 

·       S try to answer the following Q's:

 

  1.  How high is it?  13.8-metre-high.

  2.  How wide is it? 9.6 metres wide.

 

·       Point to the base and introduce it.

·       point to the writing which run round it: What is this? writing

·       Ask: Where does Kiswah come from? a factory. What is a factory? It is a place where we make things. e.g., cars.

·       Ask: What does each Kiswah cost? millions.

·       Point to the sacred black stone to introduce it or ask: What can you find near the door in the eastern corner of the Ka'aba? sacred is = as the same as holy.

 

 

 

·       Write on the board:

 

Who replaces the Kiswah? The government

 

How often is it replaced? Twice a year.

 

·       S read the Q's aloud then they will read the passage to find the answers.

·       Introduce:

Þ   surrounded: go all round something.

Þ   twice: two times.

 

 

Write:                                                       (is, am, are) +  p.p. + ........

 It is  made in a factory.

·       Ask: Who makes the Kiswah? Do you Know the names of the people? No Say: When we do not know who does something, we can use this form (the passive)

·       Write another example: It is built of stone.

·       S look for more examples, I'll write them on the board. S look at PB/10/ section 3.
