Many years back one of my older brothers, Chris, sat me down and had me listen to "Songs You Know By Heart" when I was about 7. It's a greatest hit compilation that Buffett put out years back. He explained to me the meaning behind all the tracks and I was hooked ever since. When I was in Massachusetts in 1993, I received Where is Joe Merchant?, Buffett's second novel. With the cold winters I had to endnure it was a perfect remedy for being away from the tropics. It instantly became my favorite book I own. I've must have read it countless times since.
Yes I am a Parrothead. If you have to ask what that is, I'm not telling. But I will say that its similar to DeadHeads.
For those of you who have read Joe Merchant, Click here to see the actual Cosmic Muffin that Desdemona was using as her rocket ship, yes this actually exists in Fort Lauderdale. If anyone has ANY information on the pre/post production on the film version, please let me know. As far as the movie version- there's only a few people who should even be in it, and for one, Harrison Ford should not be Frank Bama, it should be more of a Kurt Russell, but Sam Elliot definately has to be Meyercord. Any other suggestions, put em in my Guest book on my home page.
On Feburary 4, 2001, Jimmy had an altercation that will undoubtedly lead to another one of his "hit songs", such as Jamaica Mistaica. During the Miami Heat/ New York Knicks NBA game in Miami, Bubba became a little unruly with how the Heat was playing and shouted out at the Referee, Joe Forte. Forte then ejected him from his seat and almost had him taken away in cuffs! Jimmy finally decided to just make do, laugh, and be escorted to the tunnel. The entire time fans were cheering for him, as they began to recognize who it was that was stoping the game with about a minute left in the 4th quarter. On a side note from all of this, he was with Camaron, his 6 year old son. There was a shot taken of him in the USA Today that came out the next day with the caption that said, "Jimmy Buffett with his 6 year old grandson, Cameron.". I hope he caught wind of that one. Makes for a great verse.

Check out this Buffett page- BOOTLEG MP3's from the 1970's and the 1980's. Unfortunate he says that he can't post anything form the 1990's or 2000's or else Bubba will sue him. C'mon Jimmy- do you really care if people like your shows so much that they would like to listen to them again?? It's all free...sometime's that business mentality of his I don't like. Anyways, if you like Buffett Shows, you gotta check this out- Jimmy Buffett Online
There's some real early stuff there, for example a show in 1974 that sounds like it's at a coffee house.

Some people just say, eh Buffett, he's a drunk and so are his fans. Well, sure I've had a few drinks at his shows, but thats not just what he represents. It a philosophy and as is stated many time before, "a state of mind". I'll go with that. But it is fun to kick back a few at
some dingy bar and meet the locals. They're stories are always better than yours. And you might just learn something.
Speaking of learning something, Have you ever wanted to know how to make that Perfect Margarita? Or did you lose the Parrotthead Handbook that came with the Box Set? Well, here it is straight of off some one elses page- The Perfect Margarita

As far as his concerts go, the older the better. You Had To Be There is simply a must for those people who ask, "...you mean he used to swear at his shows, and really talk to the audience? This wasn't really family entertainment??" Don't get me wrong, I love going to his shows when ever they come around, though he doesn't tour Florida, especially South Florida that often, since (and here's a shocker for you northerners- ) most people in Florida are sick of Buffett, and no one in the keys, locals that is, ever mention's his name- it's considered blasphemy. Reason being that he did single handedly bring MUCH more tourism to Key West and the locals don't like that very much. Key West is fun for about a night or two of some good partying, but the best is what goes on just north if that in Marathan, and Islamorada, or Key Largo. Sure the bars arn't as good, but thats the point.

You don't get much closer to it than this- the Rumrunner that started them all. A trip to the keys is nothing without a stop at Holiday Isle's Tiki Bar and grab one of their rum runners. If you can grab the Conch Sandwich at Lorelei's. One of the best ever.
