| Champmathieu is a poor and a bit fool man, accused for having stolen some apples. He is wrongly recognized as Jean Valjean by some of Valjean's Toloun mates: Brevet, Chochepaille and Chenildieu, and by Inspector Javert. He argues that he is only a poor man, who does not how to read and write, who does not even know who were his parents and where he was born. He only konws that he worked at the house of Monseiur Baloup, who was a carter, and that he had a daughter, who died. but nobody believers him and everyone laughes at him at the court of Arras where he is being judged, until Monseiur Magdelene arrives and presents himself as the truth Jean Valjean, proving he recognizes Brevet, Cochepaille and Chenildieu. | ||||||||||||||||
