I live in the town of Elwood, Indiana which is about ten miles away from Tipton where John and Mary lived and later on where Mary's sister and her husband, Anna C.B. and Reuben Bennett, lived and where one of her daughters remained. By chance while I was searching for other material I came across the biography of Doctor Charles G. Dick of Elwood. I just happened to notice the name Hercules Young. Looking more I saw the name of Ann Chandler. It turns out that this Hercules Young is the son of James Young, the brother of Phineas and Evan. Dr. Dick's mother was John and Mary's cousin, Elizabeth. Dr. Dick lived and practiced medicine in Elwood for approximately 50 years. To add more to this coincidence is that Dr. Dick was born in Winona County, Minnesota which is just a couple of counties away from the counties where my parents and myself were born in. The big question is why did he come to Elwood? I will probably never know. |

| In the early 1950's my mother's grandfather, Orren Meader who had married Emma Ann the daughter of John and Mary and who was living in Albert-Lea, Minnesota at the time, came down to visit. While here my mother remembers him visiting relatives in Tipton. My best guess who these relatives would be are Sarah Moore and her family. Sarah was one of Ann C.B. Young's (Mary's sister) daughters from her marriage to Reuben Bennett. Sarah was dead by the 1950's so my great-grandfather would have been visiting who children then but I do know of another visit he made around 1945 and Sarah would have been alive at that time. |

| Ruth Ann's husband, Moses Parker, died several days after returning from being in the Civil War. He either died from a lingering sickness he picked up while in battle or from injuries sustained in battle. Anna C.B.'s husband, Reuben Bennet, died of consumption after having had it for eighteen years. |

According to the 1870 census, the son of Mary's sister Dinah, his brother and father are living next to Evan Young and about two farms from John and Mary. The name of the son is Absolom F. Rodrick but in the census he is going by F. Rodrick. His brother's name is Isaac and father's name is William. Also it was in Polk County where the transaction for his share of his grandmother's property in Indiana was officially taken care of. I don't believe they stayed long before they moved on to Missouri since a 1872 map of the area with names of farm owners on it failed to show their name. |

| The younger Evan Young and his family were living in Madison County, Indiana during the 1850 census. While at the Anderson library (which is the county seat for Madison County) I came across a book that had the names of people who had bought and sold land in Madison County during the 1840's and 1850's. I found the name of Evan Young twice along with the location of the land. I crossed checked this with the recorded deeds in the county building. I found the deeds but the names on them weren't Evan Young but William Young. The unanswered question is why was the name Evan used in the index book that I found in the library and not William as it was on the deeds? |

| I always wondered why John and Mary went to Polk County, Iowa to live. I think I found the reason or at least part of the reason. Phineas and Evan (senior) had a sister named Sarah. She married a Richard McClay. They were living in Wayne County, Indiana the same time (1820-1840's) and in the same area as Phineas and Evan. They had at least five children. The children would all be cousins to John and Mary. Two of the daughters married in Wayne county to H. Crawford and H. Hall. In 1854 the family including the daughters and their husbands went to Polk County. When John and Mary, Evan and Emma ?, and Moses Parker and Ruth Ann settled in Polk County in about 1863 they settled near these cousins. Also one of the McClay children, James whose farm was close to John's, married Martha Meader who was the sister of John Edward Meader who married Emma Young the daughter of John and Mary. John Edwards and Emma Ann are my gg-grandparents. |

I found the younger Evan and his wife Emma in both the 1885 and 1895 Kansas Censuses. In the 1885 census living with them was their son Charles, a Nancy J. Monjar (?), and a Joshua R. Ryan. In the 1895 census a W.J. Ryan is living with them. One of the unanswered questions about the Young family is what is Emma Young's maiden name. We know her age and that she is from Virginia. Could these three people (Ryans and Monjar) that are living with them possibly be related to her and provide a clue to her last name? |
