In 1862 all of them including Evan and his family moved to Franklin Township in Polk County. John and his family settled in either section 15 or 16 or both. Evan and his family settled next to John. Moses and Ruth Ann settled in or near what was known as Lavish Grove which would probably be in sections 8 or 9.
Sometime after 1880 John and Mary moved into Mitchellville where they owned lots 5,6,7, and 8 in Block B. Here John was a brickmaker. They remained there till they died.
In the 1885 census it shows John and Mary living in Mitchellville along with two of their daughters and families. Daughter Sarah who was now widowed was living next to them and and daughter Mary and her family were also living in Mitchellville.
