| well I'm running out of imagination here, but since I am such a smart and interesting person I guess I can think of something to write here. I am going to express my opinion about certain issues. Well first, I am a junior ar Lakeside Highschool. My dad is mexican and my mom is american. To all Americans reading this page I say this: Not all mexicans are poor, fat and ugly. It is true that Mexico, referring to economy, is a very poor country. But, like your country, we have cities, trees, television, internet, starbucks etc. We have malls, certain stores have the same stuff Saks Fifth Avenue has. And the same way we have poor people, we have middle-class people and rich people (yeah most teens dress in Abercrombie too) Thing is, the people shown in the news are those people with scarce economic resources. But a lot of people who are now mexicans, have spanish descendense as a result of past generations moving to Mexico. So yeah, there are many cute girls (and boys ) in Mexico as well. Unlike the typical American beauty icon, white, slim and blonde hair; Mexico has plenty of beautiful girls, and not one looks alike. And no, most of them are not darked skin either. American people, expecially the culturally ignorant, have to also understand that Cancun is more like an American island, than like a mexican state. Mexico is a country full of culture, tradition and history. Now, I am not saying that America does not have history, I am just saying Mexico embraces it more, and in a very different way. While in the United States patriotism is a big thing, and yeah, by reading an American History book you can easily realize how proud you are of your country;in Mexico, we are patriots, but like, we can't (and wouldn't) put a graphic of our flag in our underwear. The flag is truly a symbol of our country's roots and independence, and you are supposed to show respect for it. History is something you appreciate everyday, you just have to look around, there is not one corner where you can't see the remains of our past. And that's why it is so amazing, that evethough America has practically developed all of its historical potencial and is now a very powerful country, Mexico is still on the way, and it is interesting how we change everyday. How History is still part of each and every one of us, because we are still not done. Seems America is a million years ahead, but lets remeber the Earth exists for an nondefinite time. And we are simply not rushing. So America is full of money, while Mexico is full of values. Seems like I'm getting inspired here, so I'm about to cut it. But there is so much to say. Anyway, I don't think nobody should generalize about Mexico or mexicans without truly knowing what they are talking about. Mexico is such a complex country, and has so many different sides to it, you can't judge it until you have done a lot of research. And yeah, some things are cheaper in Mexico than they are here, bu the fact that 1 dolar equals 10 pesos does not mean you can buy things you could buy with 10 dolars. And people who think Cancun is the only beach in Mexico, there are plenty of beaches that as half as expensive to travel to than Cancun, but nobody knows about them, because nobody takes the time to do some research about my wonderful country. It Ok though, we get it all to ourselves. Here's a tip: Most of the American tourists in Mexico that travel to historic places are older than 40. Why? Not because NOW they can afford it, but until now they find Mexico interesting since they've done research about it. Don't wait until you are 39 to explore what Mexico has to give, because the best time to enjoy it is when you are young...and your legs don't cramp up every 10 minutes. Also, americans should't feel sorry for mexican people. It is true we come to your country to improve our economic situation, but We are the ones who should feel sorry for your lack of tact and morals. I am not generalizing, but it is true. While you can go to church every Sunday, if you don't put in practice what you learn there, there is no point going. I am talking mostly to Southern people, who like, live in the churches. But as I said, an hour in a Church every Sunday is not going to make you a better person. Only you are going to make you a better person. It only takes one of Oprah's shows, to make an american realize how much values your society lacks. Older people and parents freak out because teenagers are going wild, but its the whole country that's going crazy. So much bulimics and anorexics, well look at your food. There is no point having all that fat-free food in the supermarket, if what you buy for your kids to eat is some pizza they can just defrost. And why do they have to defrost their food? Because most homes don't have the time for the family to sit together and for the mother to cook something healthy (try guessing why there are so many overweight teenagers). There is no family unity in most homes. People are so busy earning money so they can buy a boat when they are 60, they are forgetting to set examples for their kids. In Mexico, 90% of the families sit and eat together. And believe it or not, this serves as guidance for our kids. American teenagers are being so rebelious because they have no role-models. Oh wait, we've got Britney Spears and Cristina Aguilera. But, contrary to what shows say, teenagers don't follow celebritiy's footsteps. They are actually trying to build their own path. Teenagers are all about independence. Which is good, except when the go the wrong way. And neiter is it not OK for parents to freak out trying to fix their kids lives now that they are teens, when they haven't had the time to put some attention to their kids while they were growing. But it IS understandable. Thing is you need to be there for your children since they are 2, not try to irrupt in their lives when you realize they "suddenly" are going the wrong way. Parents go crazy about things teenagers do today, and they try to advice them and get them in them to understand that what they are doing is not right, bla bla bla. And what your child is all going to hear is that, bla bla bla. A child is NOT like a plant, you water it and it grows. A child needs care and guidance, kids are still going to be wild when they become teenagers, I mean, hormones go crazy, it's not entirely their fault. But it is, somehow, and sadly, their parents fault. Giving a kid what they need to survive is not enough. Clothes, food and shelter won't do it. You have to give them what they need to live a plentifull life. You have to give them their independence, their right to make choices since their are little, so that when they grow they are not all going crazy about becoming independent. Because you gave them the choice, to choose who they are becoming. Kids go wild because they are lost. They try to find indivuduality in some many ways. They try to follow the crowd, the drink, they smoke, they have sex, it's all normal in teenage world. Ok. This is what I' talking about. Marriage is a big thing. Divorce is a huge thing. Marriage lost its importance, because divorce is so common. It is understandable that divorce happens. But check out how Church is so crazy about Marriage stuff, and adults don't seem to care. Well Church is crazy about a bunch of other things, and teens don't seem to care. Adults don't have the right to live by the wrong rules, then expect their children to follow the right rules. And you know WHYY can I say all the things I am saying now? Because, my culture is different, and that's why I can tell what's wrong with yours. Because I am a teenager too, but I was raised differently. It is not about how my parents educated me, it's about the values that my country posseses. I'm not talking about how messed-up new generations are, I'm talking about why they are the way they are in America, and why are they different in Mexico. Ple-ase, parents can't go blaming Britney Spears for their child's lack of integrity , I mean Britney is Big in Mexico too, but that's definitely not it. I'm not saying Mexico is perfect in that manner, but it has such a different ideology, that whatever a teenage does, it is because he or she choses to do it. Not because we are following a crowd, trying to find our independence, digging out our real WE, looking to fit in, pretending to be Paris Hilton etc..I can go on forever. I mean, parties in the U.S are all "uh my parents are not home this weekend " they have to HIDE from the police and their moms and dads. Parties in Mexico, first of all, parents help with the party. Yeah sometimes they buy alcohol too actually. But children are aware of the freedom they are given, and try not to mess up. Parties ocurr in safe places, yeah, police actually takes care of the kids, they don't haunt them down. Parties have chairs and tables, music and everything. Most kids, especially girls, don't feel the NEED to drink at all. Because it's all different. Ok ,so parties in the U.S: kids buy alcohol which is illegal, party without their parents, sometimes in the middle of a forrest, OF COURSE they are going to get wild. Why? Because this is the only chance they have. Society is so "tight "about this issues, going against the rules actually becomes FUN. They have to get drunk to actually enjoy the "party". Because the party's enviroment is horrible.Yeah in Mexico we also have teen clubs, where drinking is allowed, drugs are not permitted (still some people do drugs of course) . But this are mostly safe, fun places. Some people don't drink at all. They don't need to drink to feel like grown-ups, because, unlike american kids, they already have the liberty they want. AND yeaah thanks to their parents hellou!. And now that they have it, they are aware of it, and try to make the most of it without exceeding the limits, because they don't need to exceed them. It is amazing how in the U.S, the more a parent gives importance to these issues, the more their child seems less to care. And ALL this that I am saying and have said, is just to make you Americans see how great Mexico is. It is not a dessert full with tequila oasis's. It is a country that deserves respect and should be admired. Because Mexico has problems, but , believe me, even if America has the best constitution ever written, society is still a mess.Of course there are teenage pregnancys in Mexico, of course kids do drugs, it's just that the rate of it is not nearly as inmense as it is in America. And most of the kids that do happen to get in this situations, are the kids that don't have the chance to go to school and truly be informed about this issues. They are honestly, homeless kids with no families or education. But kids in Mexico that have the same economic level as most kids in the U.S, and by that I mean middle-class at least, are way smarter in the decisions they make. So just next time any American want to talk about Mexico, please look at your country first. This is it for this page, because I don't have more space, but I could go on and on and on and on OKK |
