Mill Creek. Haileybury
Mill Creek is located on the southern portion of the town. At the turn of the century a sawmill, built by Haileybury's founder C.C. Farr, was located here.
Was this the location Leslie used in his writing of the 'Secret of the Old Mill?'

Do you remember the character Jadbury Wilson?
This is Asbury Wilson, Leslie McFarlane's Haileybury High School Principal. A coincidental similiarity in names?

Is Haileybury Really Bayport?
Could it Be?

Yes, Devil's Rock, located just 3 miles south of Haileybury is one of many landmarks which make Haileybury a probable candidate for the setting of Bayport.
Devil's Rock is a fault cliff dated to 2,200 million years old. It has a face of 600 feet rising 300 feet above the water level of Lake Temiskaming.
Interesting features are the scars of mining tunnels chiselled into the cliff during the silve rush era.
Leslie McFarlane was very inspired by many of the features in the immediate area of Haileybury and the surrounding area.
A trip to Devil's Rock is a must for all Hardy Boy fans visiting Haileybury. Enjoy the breathtaking view atop the cliff or venture into one of the caves at the bottom.

Relive the Hardy Boys novels 'The House on the Cliff' and 'The Secret of the Caves."

Lakeshore Road. Haileybury
Yes, we have a 'Shore Road' as well which hugs along the Lake Temiskaming. It too has steep rocky embankments along its edge.
