Today's Haileybury has changed much since the early days when Leslie McFarlane came to the town in 1910. The Great Fire on October 4, 1922, ravaged 90% of the community, left 11 dead, and left thousands homeless.

    Haileybury, with a population of 4,500, is situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Temiskaming. This "District Town" offers you and your family Northern hospitality at its best. On the lake the town boasts a fully serviced 170 slip marina with launching facilities, a unique enclosed sandy beach, a 150-foot waterslide, wading pool, an open air pavilion, playground, and a Waterfront Park for picnics.
    Drive along the town's beautiful waterfront and view the many stately homes along Lakeshore Road, originally known as 'Millionaire's Row'. For the boating enthuiasts, Haileybury is accessible from the Ottawa River on the Temiskawa Waterway, formerly the Lake Temiskaming/Ottawa River Waterway.

    For a spectacular view of Lake Temiskaming, visit Devil's Rock, named after an Indian princess who leaped to her death upon being denied marriage to the brave of her choice. Devil's Rock is considered by many to be the undisputed setting for the Hardy Boys book 'The House on the Cliff.'

    Visit the World famous Haileybury School of Mines where many of the globe's top mining executives attended. For history buffs, the Haileybury Heritage Museum boasts thousands of artifacts including a fully restored 1904 streetcar, a 1922 Ruggles Fire Pumper, and its newest acquisitions, the tugboat M.V. Beauchene and an Ontario Northland Railway Caboose. The life of Leslie McFarlane comes alive at the museum with a dedicated display of artifacts honouring this hometown author.
   A visit to Haileybury and the Tri-Town area would not be complete without a visit to the Temiskaming Art Gallery. Located in the municipal library building, many Northern Ontario artists' works are featured here as well as exhibitions from the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

    Haileybury's annual events include sports tournaments, community festivals such as Heritagefest and the Winter Carnival. Enjoy a very challenging game of golf at Northern Ontario's most scenic course, offering a breathtaking view of Lake Temiskaming and the surrounding area.
