This is a Thai public secondary school (grades 7 to 12) within the Rajaphat Institute Suan Sunandha, Bangkok. It is called a demonstration school because the Rajaphat Institutes, which are a degree-granting college system (and before that were teachers' colleges) allow their undergraduate students to do teaching practicums within the elementary and secondary schools on campus. It is called Suan Sunandha, which means "Garden or Park of Sunandha" as 100 years ago the grounds were part of Queen Sunandha's palace. The palace first became a teacher's college in 1937 and in 1938 the first secondary school was built.
There are currently 700 students and 60 teachers at the secondary school. Students must write a formal entrance exam to enroll at the school. They then take a variety of courses ranging from the usual maths and sciences to Buddhism and scouting. (For a more detailed list of the curriculum go to CURRICULUM)
I first taught here as an English teacher between 1993 and 1995, and returned again in January 1999 and taught until October 2000 . The English department is comprised of 9 teachers, of which I was the only foreigner and the only male.
