Chapter 212: Jennifer III—Just a Kiss

The first part didn’t bother Jennifer so much. Debbie told her that she wouldn’t be able to go to the charity auction at the Mercer Mansion but Cecile would be going in her stead. Jennifer liked the girl, so she was more than happy to have her along. The second part threw her for a wild curve.

“Oh Jennifer,” Mimi Roy had said, there with that false smile, how could she live with herself after she had caused all that grief for Jacquelyn. What a selfish, selfish woman and she was wrong to ever start thinking nice thoughts about her.

“Yeah?” Jennifer had asked, wanting to just leave her behind, go out the door and get ready for the benefit.

“I won’t be able to go to the benefit tonight,” Michele said. “Jana has another cold and I would rather stay home with her, I hope that doesn’t upset you too much.”

Coward doesn’t even want to face me? Jennifer thought. Perhaps she does feel some shame.

“So,” Mimi continued. “I have asked Patrick to go for me; it will not be a problem, yes? He will meet you over there?”

Jennifer’s heart screeched in terror. Patrick? With her… and Cecile? Patrick? Jennifer’s mind raced. She knew she had been telling Cecile all those stories about him and at this point she couldn’t remember what the real ones were and what weren’t. This was terrible! Cecile wouldn’t be comfortable either!

            “Patrick?” Jennifer whispered.

Mmm,” Michele said with a cat’s lazy smile, “Will it be a problem? It isn’t as if you would have to be around him, it’s just a silly benefit, is it bad?”

            “N-no,” Jennifer said. “Of course not… I mean… it’s great.”

            “Bon!” Michele chirped. “Have fun!”

I hate you! Jennifer thought. Of course Mimi couldn’t know how she felt about Patrick but there it was.

The charity was a dinner, a silent auction, some local entertainment all at the largest mansion in the Cherry Creek area. It was all invitation only and originally it had been Debbie Sakic, Jennifer Foote and Mimi Roy who had received invites. Debbie had called in and had Cecile approved for hers and Jennifer assumed that Mimi would just assume that Patrick could get in on his name alone.

Maybelle Mercer was an elderly widow and Jennifer spent a large portion of the evening with the old woman, keeping her company, and watching the rest of the party. She put in her bids on items, at the dinner but it was turning out to be a dull evening for her. She had hoped that she would be able to spend some quality time with Cecile but the news of the girl’s engagement and the insinuation in the newspaper that she was related to the Sakic’s had the girl swallowed in throngs of attention from the socialites. She was the darling of the ball.

As it turned out, the benefit was supposed to be a ladies only affair but Patrick’s grin and offering of a very exquisite bottle of wine to the hostess warmed her up immediately. Rather than being put out, the ladies flocked around Patrick who seemed more than happy to laugh with them and entertain them. So that meant, the ladies who weren’t already buzzing around Cecile were flocking around Patrick. Jennifer contented herself with listening to Mrs. Mercer reminisce about the old days and sipping at some Sherry.

Jennifer noticed that it was around eleven o’clock when she excused herself to the bathroom. Jennifer blinked when she entered the bathroom, the size of which could fit a small apartment home. She shook her head and yawned before she leaned in front of the bathroom mirror and retouched the make up on her face.

“I should just go home,” she muttered as she tossed her lipstick back into her purse. “Not like I’d get any more fun there.”

            “For certain?”

The voice was warm against her ear and Jennifer cried out as she jumped back from the sink. “For the love of GOD!” she snapped. “Patrick don’t do that!”

Patrick Roy was grinning with sleepy eyes. “I thought you would have seen me, sorry.”

“Oh and you just walk in like that without knocking?” Jennifer exclaimed, pressing her hand to her breast where she could feel her pulse pounding. “What are you dumb or something?”

Patrick shrugged and walked over to the bathroom door and he turned the lock on it, a move that sent Jennifer’s alarm bells clanging. She tightened her grip on her purse. Patrick leaned against the door and crossed his arms over his chest. “You should have locked it, yes?”

“I’ll do that next time,” Jennifer said quietly, she was feeling somewhat dizzy… maybe it was just the sherry that was doing it. “I’ll just be going now…” She said and she took a deep breath as she walked towards him, avoided eye contact and focused on the door knob that was glittering gold. She felt comfort as her fingers touched it but he didn’t move out of the way.

            “What’s your rush?” he asked.

“Let me by!” Jennifer snapped and she cried out when his arm encircled her waist and he pulled her deeper into the bathroom. She opened her mouth to scream but his hand stopped it, he was holding her so tightly.

Shhhh!” he hissed into her ear. “Calm down.”

His hand slid off her mouth and Jennifer snarled. “NO! HELP…”

His hand clamped down over her mouth again and he whispered into her ear. “They wouldn’t hear you if you screamed, we’re a long hallway away from them and they fill one large noisy room. So don’t waste your energy cherie.”

Jennifer squeaked, could feel her heart clanging, her body sweating, tears wobbling in her eyes but she nodded, and he slid his hand off her mouth. “What do you want?” she asked, taking in a deep breath.

“What do you think?” he replied and she felt his other hand slide down to her bottom.

“NO!” Jennifer exclaimed and she pressed her palms into his hard, broad chest and pushed at him. “And if you force me I’ll just tell them you raped me!”

Patrick laughed and slid his hand up the back of her neck, tangled his fingers into her hair, but he didn’t yank or squeeze her hard. “And who would believe you? I will tell them you threw yourself at me, dying for anything since your husband will give you nothing. Sounds like a better story yes?”

“You wouldn’t!” Jennifer exclaimed. She saw the gleeful, cruel glint in his eyes and she knew that he would. She swallowed, thought of how she had fought with Adam just the day before, and remembered the look in Adam’s eyes as she had told him that perhaps she should find someone who would appreciate her body if he wouldn’t. What would Adam believe if presented with these two stories, Patrick being his most trusted friend? Was it a risk she wanted to take?

She swallowed, sidled away from Patrick, her knees were trembling. “Please,” she said, “Just let me go.”

Patrick smiled with a pleasant face, almost as if he were being a caring friend. “I’ll let you go, I’ll leave you alone if you just give me… a kiss.”

“A kiss?” Jennifer asked, feeling stupid.

            Patrick nodded. “A kiss.”

“That’s all?” she asked. “OK… if that’s all you want…”

She stood there, and she closed her eyes, felt her breath stop and then after what seemed like an excruciating wait she felt his arms slide around her, felt her skin prickle when his hands settled in the small of her back. And she was horrified with herself when his lips touched hers and her lips opened so easily, and her breathing stopped, her pulse intensified and… and… Adam had not kissed her like this in months! She wanted to melt, she wanted to faint, she hated herself for her trembling hands that she pressed onto his shoulders.

He wants me! Jennifer thought. He finds me irresistible!

She actually felt a cold rush of disappointment when he stepped away from her and she sighed, opened her eyes slowly, saw him watching her. She tried to take one step back and he swooped in on her again, his arms around her body and his mouth, oh God his mouth on her throat….

“OH!” Jennifer gasped. “You said you’d let me go!”

Patrick kissed her gently on the side of her neck and then he stroked his hand down one of her cheeks in such a gentle, smooth way. “I said if you gave me a kiss.” He said. “You didn’t give me a kiss I gave you a kiss so the deal’s off.”

“You bastard,” Jennifer whispered, and she felt distanced from her body, as if she were watching from the ceiling as Patrick proceeded to unbutton her blouse. “You filthy bastard!”

“And what are you?” Patrick whispered into her ear. “Spreading filthy lies about my wife, making my children cry?”

Jennifer swallowed, “Lies?” she said and she moaned out loud, hating herself for it when she felt his fingers at her panties, compromising…

“Lies,” Patrick said. “You heartless bitch.”

“How do you know,” Jennifer shot back with her last vestige of spirit. “Do you spy on her every second of the day?”

“Because,” Patrick hissed, “If any of it were true I’d snap her neck and she knows it. And now so do you.”

Oh SHIT! Jennifer thought. He’s going to kill me….

“But we don’t have to think about that now yes?” Patrick whispered. “We’re a little too comfortable for that.” His hand slid into her opened blouse, his kisses soon followed, his breath and lips on flesh that had not been touched or appreciated in so long, making her blood rush against all her self respect and will.

Nooo!” Jennifer said in a voice that fast melted into a sigh as he was on his knees now, her skirt was tight and bunched around her waist, his hands was squeezing one of her thighs, lifting it, settling it over his shoulder and just the feel of his burning, hard back against her calf blinded her with lust.

“Say that again?” Patrick said, “I want to hear you say no.”

Jennifer closed her eyes, squeezed out a tear and felt the moist heat of his breath in that place where it shouldn’t be but where it was the most exquisite. She cried out in pleasure now rather than fear and she almost doubled over at the waist, gripping her fingers in his loose, floppy hair, dropping more tears and laughing… how could she have gone this long without this? How could she have put up with the neglect….

“No!” She moaned. “Don’t stop….. ever!”
