Chapter 238: Cecile XIX—You Have No Idea
To say the least, Cecile had been more than a little bit horrified to hear Mitchell curse like that as he had plodded away from them, dragging his backpack. Debbie was more, beside herself. She didn’t faint so much as she swooned. Joe was quick to slide the twin he was holding to the ground and he grabbed his wife and helped her to the couch. The twins seemed quiet and almost worried as they clung to the couch and stared at their mother. Cecile was quick to go to the kitchen and warm up a hot pack for Debbie’s forehead. Joe met her at the doorway and took it from her. He patted her on the shoulder. “Go look after Mitchell,” he said.
Cecile found Mitchell in his room, curled up on top of his bed. She raised her eyebrows and went to him. She patted him on the side, he was soaked through with a cold sweat, “Hey Teddy Bear,” she said, “You’re already sleepy?”
“Yeah,” Mitchell said.
“Well, then,” Cecile said, thinking about the power outage, and the drained state the children seemed to be in after the incident, “Let’s get you into a warm bath and then you can go to bed all clean, hm?”
“Am I stinky?” Mitchell asked in a worried voice.
“Nope,” Cecile said and she pinched his nose, “But in a few hours you will be.”
“Okay,” Mitchell said and he slid off the bed. “Come on, let’s get this over with.”
Cecile lifted her eyebrow and followed him into his bathroom. The boy was actually sounding sarcastic and cynical, did he even know how to do that? She went to the tub and turned on the water. “Is everything okay, Mitchell?” she asked. “Did the lights scare you too much?”
“Okay,” Mitchell said dully and he peeled off his shirt and dropped it on the floor. “I don’t think I’ll ever be scared again.”
Cecile tested the water with her hand before she plugged the drain and squirted the bath bubbles in. After the water level rose to the proper level she said, “Well, now you’ll be the only Kindergartner who doesn’t get scared.”
Mitchell yawned and scratched his head. “Uh huh,” he replied and he waddled into the bathtub and slowly sunk into the water until his head was barely peeking above the bubbles, his eyes slit thin and blinking. Cecile frowned and grabbed his tiny arm. “Mitchell,” she said. “When did you get this dark?” The boy’s skin looked sun kissed, as if he’d spent a day on the beach,
“In old
Cecile grinned and rolled her eyes. Was Jana rubbing her wild tales off on him? Honestly, Mitchell probably learned to curse from her as well. “Oh really,” Cecile said, “And when did you go there?”
“In the museum,” Mitchell said. “Don’t you know?”
“No,” Cecile said, “Tell me.”
Mitchell yawned. “I’m not supposed to tell. The King would get mad.”
Cecile laughed. “You kids are crazy.”
Mitchell yawned again in reply.
“Hey Sport,” Mr. Sakic said.
Mitchell’s eyes popped open and the little boy sat up higher at the sound of his father’s voice. “Daddy!” he exclaimed.
Mr. Sakic seemed in a pleasant mood, he had an indulgent smile on his face as he entered the bathroom and began to pick up Mitchell’s dirty clothes. “You guys really tired out Momma,” Mr. Sakic said. “What were you up to?”
Mitchell grinned. “We were on a special mission for the Fwench regiment of the Leprechaun Guard Daddy! And you were the captain! Daddy and Jonathan is my hero! He saved the day and killed the mummy and I want to be just like him!”
Cecile pressed the back of her hand to her mouth to keep from flat out laughing and Mr. Sakic’s expression went from confuddled to just plain amused. “What?” he exclaimed.
“The Leprechaun King sent us on a mission and we had to rescue Elena and did you know that Mimi is a really powerful witch?” Mitchell said; waving his chubby, bubble covered hand in the air. He yawned again and blinked. “And I am the spell keeper!”
Cecile shook her head and looked at Mr. Sakic who now seemed worried again. “Mitchell, do you have a fever kid?” He asked.
Mitchell wrinkled his nose. “I don’t know, Daddy,” he said. “Maybe I could get cold down.” With that he took a deep breath and immersed himself into the bathwater.
“What happened?” Mr. Sakic exclaimed and Cecile grimaced, feeling a bit guilty. “It was just a trip to the museum I thought that at least would be safe it’s not like the zoo where they can set a water buffalo loose on the unsuspecting public for Crissakes!”
Cecile smiled until Mr. Sakic stopped talking and he shook his head.
“Mr. Sakic,” she said, “I am so sorry. I don’t know what happened. I mean I was with the twins and the lights went out. I guess to look at it lightly, it seems like the kids had a blast. They’re certainly talking creatively, and their imagination seems to be pretty strong. Let’s just say the exhibits, what’s left of them, were inspiring.”
He grimaced. “Well Debbie seems like she’s on her death bed for all this.”
Cecile
shrugged. “Mr. Sakic, if you think about it, we can probably just blame the
“Igor?” Joe said. “Yeah.”
Cecile crossed her arms. “You know about Igor?”
“Sure,” Joe said. “Mitchell talks about him all the time… MITCHELL!”
Cecile’s eyes widened and she realized that Mitchell was still under the bath bubbles. She reached the water before Mr. Sakic and she dunked her hands in, pulling the boy up. Mitchell gasped in a breath of air as Cecile wiped his face of with a soft towel.
“Is my fever gone?” Mitchell asked.
“Boy you are going straight to bed!” Mr. Sakic said in a gruff voice.
“Okie,” Mitchell said. “Sorry Daddy.”
Mr. Sakic muttered something to himself and he took Mitchell’s dirty clothes out of the bathroom. Cecile began scrubbing Mitchell’s hair and that’s when she noticed that there was a lot of dirt and grime. “Mitchell, what, were you rolling in a mud hole?” Cecile asked staring at the gritty dirt on her fingers.
“Nope,” Mitchell said.
She heard Mr. Sakic come back into the bathroom. She glanced at him as he scooped up Mitchell’s little shoes and when he did a spout of sand poured out from them.
“Jesus!” Mr. Sakic yelled.
“Christ!” Mitchell finished.
“Mitchell!” Both Cecile and Mr. Sakic snapped.
“Sorry,” Mitchell whispered.
Mr. Sakic dropped the shoes back on the floor and he leaned over Mitchell, kissed the top of his head, and said, “I’ll see you in a bit kid, stay out of trouble.”
“Okay, Daddy,” Mitchell said. “I love you.”
“Yup,” Mr. Sakic said as he made a somewhat hasty exit from the bathroom.
Cecile giggled
and looked at Mitchell. “Just like
Mitchell nodded with wide blinking eyes. “You have noooo idea!”
