| In July 2004, twenty-one former pupils from Acklam Grange School visited Lesiraa School as part of a seventeen day Overland Expedition to Kenya and Tanzania. What we witnessed was so moving, that we felt we had to 'make a difference'. The two wooden classrooms were in a terrible state of repair, and the other three classrooms were desperately in need of furniture and equipment. There had been a drought for the past three years, and the poverty and hardship were clear to see. We left $980 (576) with the owner of Meserani Snake Park, with instructions that a fund should be set up to build and furnish two new classrooms, and we would raise the rest of the money when we returned to the U.K. |
