The Last Summer I was in Virginia

The jet-powered plane raced with velocity through the white puffy clouds,

Moisture clings to the window as we glide through the clouds,

Silence sweeps through the plane,

Women in white undershirts and blue vests ask, “Excuse me, would you like anything to eat or drink.”

Grasping the soda with one hand, I drink it with caution,

There is silence then a voice mysteriously says, “Ladies and gentleman please fasten your seatbelt we are about to land.”

My heart starts pounding; with caution my seatbelt is fastened.

The wheels blast out and the white puffy clouds disappear and are never seen again,

Turbulence hits us as we fall like a rock out of the sky,

The wheels touch the ground and my head slingshots forward,

The plane comes to a screeching stop,

“Ladies and gentlemen welcome to Virginia,” says the pilot as we’re exiting the plane.

Humidity creeps down my back and makes me pant heavily,

My shirt sticks to my skin,

Sweat trickles down my neck and forehead,

Citizens are everywhere and all are tan.

The scent of ocean water is everywhere,

The air is very salty and dry,

Trees sway back and forth, the breeze is spine chilling,

This is by far the best vacation ever, and I never wanted it to end.
