This database includes the founding families of Louisiana, and Texas in the Colonial Period and beyond to the founders of Quebec, Mexico and American Revolutionary War Veterans.
There are 4693 individuals, 1658 marriages and 1054 Surnames in this portion of genealogy. The names include: LeMoyne (Sieurs de Iberville and Bienville), Juchereau (de St.Denis), RAMBIN, RUMBY, DeSoto, Prudhomme, Laffitte, Flores, Gil-Y'barbo and many others.

A note to RAMBIN and RUMBY Researchers:
In French, the surname "Rambin" is pronounced similar to "ROM-BEE".
The phoenic spelling of RUMBY is not a far stretch and fairly acurate in pronunciation.
Today, most family members in the United States pronounce the name "RAM-BEN".
The RUMBY Spelling seems to be localized (at this point in my research) to the descendants of two individuals.
1.) Alexis (Francoise Alexander) Rambin dit Rumby and his descendants seemed to have migrated early to Nacogdoches,Texas. Only a portion of this line use the spelling RUMBY.
2.) His 1st Cousin, once removed, Mitchel Alceed Rambin dit Rumby, seems to have migrated to Vernon Parish and then his descendants moved on to neighboring Beauregard Parish, Louisiana.
If you are a Rumby descendant, please look for your ancestor under both spellings
(Rumby and Rambin).

Historical information on a number of family members can be found in THE HANDBOOK of TEXAS,which now has an
online version! One researcher of this line, Patti Lemee, has an article (available in the online version) regarding Manuela, wife of Louis Juchereau de St. Denis. There are several regarding her family, the Ramon's of San Juan Bautista & Presidio del Norte. There are also writings regarding Vincent Cordova, related to the Sepulvedo and Flores lines. As well as writings of Manuel Flores, Jean LaFitte (the privateer) and Louis Juchereau de St. Denis.
