Leros is one of the Greek Dodecanese Islands located in the Aegean Sea 295 kilometres south east of Athens and 95 kilometres north west of Rhodes .The island situated between Patmos and Kalymnos , Leros is an island of fertile valleys and small  green hills,  coves and pretty beaches some from pebbles and some from sand. The island remains today a hidden paradise from the mass tourism without many foreign tourists, mostly the tourism is based in Greek travellers. You can fly to the small airport of Partheni of Leros island via Olympic Airlines which has daily flights to and from Athens . Ferries connect daily Leros with the mainland port of Piraeus (9 hours) and the other main islands like Patmos Samos Kos Kalymnos Rhodes on the north-south route through the Aegean . Ferries arrive at the main port of Lakki in the south west of the island. In high season there are regular hydrofoil and catamaran services to Patmos (45 minutes), neighbouring Lipsi (20 minutes), Kos (one hour), Rhodes (just over three hours) and the North East Aegean island of Samos (two hours). The port of Agia Marina on the east coast is the arrival and departure point for fast boats. Panteli is one of the most beloved places in Leros both from the locals and the visitors, a traditional fishermen's village 10 minutes walk from Leros main city Platanos, a beautiful beach ideal for snorkelling, swimming and sun bathing, small taverns and restaurants next to the fishing boats. Leros is a pretty, green island with a coastline of 76 km . It's relatively flat with low hills and plains reaching down to the sea, the island took its name from an ancient Greek word meaning the smooth and the flat.  The valleys have lush vegetation with pine, eucalyptus, oak, fig and olive trees and  there is some cultivated farmland. Sailing and fishing have been the main occupations of the Lerians in the past. The port of Laki, 3 kilometres south of Agia Marina, is the island's main port. It is built at the back of a deep, practically enclosed bay, whose mouth is only 500 metres wide. In Leros you will find accommodation in many apartments around the several resorts of the island. Laki the port is one of the largest and best natural harbours in the Mediterranean. Leros is connected daily with Athens by sea and air as well with the surrounding Dodecanese islands of Patmos Lipsi and Samos at the north and Kos Symi Nisyros and Rhodes Greece and Astypalea at the South. Tourism has not dominated the local economy here as it has on the more popular islands. After the Second World War Leros slowly developed its tourist industry in the 70's.   Panteli, Vromolithos, Xirokambos, and Gourna are charming seaside resorts, while you'll find wonderful swimming at the beaches of  Pandeli, Vromolitho, Alinda, Laki, Merkies, and Xirokambos. The result is an island which has so many beauties and international tourism is just discovering it .
