| Cleaving the Wine Barrel (as told by Jebidiah) Characters: Jebidiah (Steve), Raul (GT), Sean (Shane) Setting: On the road between Brechlen and Saarmen Before I tell the story, there needs to be a little background. Sean, the paladin, travels with a primarily evil crowd. Every time we encounter enemies, possible enemies, or anything odd, he will use his detect evil ability. Primarily evil party plus one paladins detect evil ability equals three or four other players (whom are evil chars, that should go without saying) calling him a dumbass for trying to use it. On a trip between two local towns, Saarmen and Brechlen, we met a man driving a caravan full of wine barrels. Since this was before we had a magic carpet or any other means of travel, we asked for a ride. The man was kind enough to allow us passage, so we hopped on. As we continued our ride, we heard some strange noises and couldn't figure out where they were coming from. Seeing as how we always got into trouble of some sort, we were all supicious of a trap. We questioned the driver, who claimed to hear nothing and wasn't worried of anything at all (even though orcs had been rumored to be passing through recently). While headed back to the wagon to sit, I brushed against one of the barrels and noticed it was warm. I paused for a moment and sat back down with the rest and told them quietly. While we were discussing, the very same barrel jumped a little bit. At this point the paladin (one whom should be a good person and must be careful with what actions are taken) immediatly pounced on the barrel with his greatsword and cleaved it in half. Warm red fluid spurted across the wagon. It didn't take long to realized it was blood, and the person who was now in two pieces in place of the barrel was also a clue. As it turns out, the man was really the Crimson Pedal, a man known throughout the parts to be a do-gooder who was never seen or caught but always worked to rescue innocent people from warring countries and takes them to saftey. The people whom were currently being transported were innocent nobles and commoners who wished to have no part in the battle between Saarmen and Holstadt. As the paladin looked down at the body and his sword he realized he had done something wrong. He raised his head and began to apolgise to the wagon driver, however he was none to pleased and was already in the process of getting reprimand for the man's life. The driver impaled Sean with a greatsword through the gut knocking him off the caravan. He then jumped down, picked him up, and nailed him to a tree using the greatsword. With a quaking voice he ordered the rest of us off the caravan, and continued off without us. We pulled the sword out of Sean with a grin and a chuckle... and a few kicks for making us walk the rest of the way. Sean's paladin abilities and pride deminished after that encounter. This wouldn't be the last time we would meet the Crimson Pedal, and his grudge would always be held against Sean. |
