The most significant event in the life of Bruce Wayne was the murder of his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne. They had just been to see a film, widely believed to be “The Mask of Zorro”. His parents were not killed by the Joker. At present DC say he doesn't know who killed them.
Bruce Wayne fell down a cave, underneath his mansion, Wayne Manor and saw a bat. He made a vow to his parents, to protect the innocent, and he has kept that vow.
Batman made his first appearance in Gotham the same time James Gordon arrived with his wife, Barbara in town. At first he didn’t wear a costume, and on one occasion he fought the young Selina Kyle under her balcony.
Later he dawned a costume, made to strike fear into the heart of criminals. He became the Batman, defender of Gotham. His code has meant that he cannot kill. He isn't after revenge but justice. With allies such as Robin, Nightwing, Azrael, Huntress, Batgirl, Oracle and Catwoman he protects the innocent. Despite being a vigilante, he believes in the law. And did have an ally in James Gordon, although since Gotham fell there relationship has changed.
