Edward Nashton has a great love of puzzles, which go back to his school days. As a young boy he cheated at a game and won a prize, after that he devoted himself to learning to be able to complete any puzzles or riddles. He is at these things almost a genius.
He used to work at a fair ground, under the name of Edward Nygma, and again cheated accumulating some money. As Edward Nygma, Nashton didn't feel so low and gawky as he did as a kid.
The Riddler is obsessive and ultimate fantasy is to outsmart the Batman. He leaves behind cryptic clues, which lead to his whereabouts and Batman has this tendency to crack them. He enjoys the setting up of a crime more than anything.
