Our plan was to travel around the world in unlimited time. We want to do this on 2 motorcycles, we bought two Yamaha's XT 600 e (the e stand for electric starter). The decision to make a choice for this type was easy they are cheap to buy, they are develop for the task, and standard there are already made the trip several times.
It took us quit while to get everything arranged there was so much to do in only a year time.
We have to get our licenses for the bike we have to sell our house, to sell the most of the furniture, to get the visa for Iran, Pakistan and India.
We want to make aluminum panniers for the things to bring with us. Also there was work on the bike: We need a frame for the boxes (every thing you can buy is terrible, a bigger tank for gas, a extra battery to supply energy for the laptop, mini disc and to load the batteries for the camera.
The worst part of all was to cancel every magazine, newspaper, social security and so on. There was to be found a new good perfect place for the cat (and we found one). So maybe you can understand what kind of work we stand for.
To make the boxes the living room was to be rebuild in a workroom It was winter that time so outside the house it was not a good idea. The boxes fit in a aluminum frame and fit together with a lot of rivets.
To get the driving licenses was a hell of a job, we needed much more lessons then we thought, in Holland it is hard to get the license, Jolanda was lucky to pass the first time and it took me four times. (time pressure, nerves and stupid excuses as "it was a little bit to fast or to slow") a extra handicap was that there is so much time between every exam, so I have to take extra lessons I have to wait I get extra nerves, and the cost increase. But finally it al worked out and July 6 2000 I was the owner of my drivers license.
The house was sold in less then 24 hour the real estate manager came to our house and he offered us a price Jolanda found it to low and told him so we want the price to raised 10%, he agreed.
And on Friday the news was in a real estate paper on Saturday he already had 16 serious buyers. They game to look for the house on Tuesday and the house was sold on Wednesday. For the price we want.
A very good friend of us Bennie Buevink is working on a workplace where they rebuild and design new wheelchairs We asked him if he would like the make the frame on the bike for the boxes. And luckily he answered with a Yes it took as several Saturdays to get everything fit and fixed on both bikes and finally it became a solid framework .
The father of a girlfriend from us install the second battery together with a relays so we can get power from the second battery whiteout using energy from the main battery. The power inverter makes from 12 volt 220 volts. Now loading battery's from the camera laptop and the minidisk is not a problem anymore.
We are almost ready now to start our trip, Jolanda's sister is pregnant and she is expecting the baby in august so we still have time to make a test-drive. But more of this later.
