  1. Alternative 404 page
  2. Consistent style, efficiently applied (allow for easy updates)
  3. Accessibility/Usability
    1. Run a bobby check
    2. Ensure support for varying font and window sizes
    3. Provide a Site Map - widely available
    4. Maximise Browser/Media? support
    5. Minimize Download Time
    6. Use sensible names for common links (eg Home, Search, Site Map, Knowledge Base, About [company name], Contact Us
    7. Make link phrases self-explanatory
  4. For big sites, provide a 'Search' facility
  5. Structure
    1. Provide a link Home from every page
    2. Provide a link to go One level up, avail from every branch or leaf
    3. Provide links to all relevant leaves from Each branch
    4. Provide a 'top' link on pages of any length.
    5. Provide a 'next' and 'previous' (and maybe 'first' and 'last') links on sequential sections
