My Life

Where am I from? To quote a certain swordsman, "Lots of different places." My father was in the army and we moved around a lot, including Darmstadt, Germany for three years. He retired to Tampa, Florida but soon moved to Ft. Lauderdale. I spent my teenage years there before we moved to Sarasota. After I finally left home I've lived in Washington D.C. and, for a brief time, Key West. During my studies, I lived in St. Peter, Minnesota for two years. For now, I'm living in Sarasota. By this time next year I want to be in Seattle. I'm in college diligently working my way towards a B.A. in Scandinavian Studies or just Scandinavian History (depending on grants and scholarships), for which I need to leave Florida.

Why am I in college? I've been to two different schools, Manatee Community College here in Sarasota, the other was Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. It's at Gustavus that I did the course work for Scandinavian Studies for two years. However, the climate in Minnesota was too severe for my health and I had to leave. So now,I'm finishing my academic requirements for an Associate's Degree in History at Manatee Community College to help me gain admission to a higher university, perhaps The University of New Mexico or The University of Conneticut I could graduate from Manatee CC in December, but to maintain my in-school deferment and not have to start paying back my student loans before next Fall I'll take a couple of additional courses at MCC.

What are my career goals? They're pretty simple to explain but difficult to win. I'm planning on earning a Ph.D. in a Scandinavian Studies field. I want to teach and to write history books related to Scan Studies. I'll know English, Swedish, Icelandic and Old Norse. I want to read the Icelandic Sagas in the original language and puzzle out runic inscriptions. I'll never be rich but I'll be satisfied with what I do.
