February 3 -- We had a productive impromptu Althing last Wednesday night. Present were me, Tomas, Maria, Kitirat, and Joli. Glad I finally got to meet Joli. A goodly amount of things were discussed and decided upon.

1. The shire device was decided upon. It's the viking ship device: azure, a viking ship proper, a chief wavy or.

2. There will not be any regularly scheduled shire meetings and projects on Saturdays. People just need time for themselves on the weekends. Fighter practices and battlegames will be held on Sundays. We'll go up to Brandon to play with Falling Fire sometimes on Sundays. This rule does not preclude having classes and get-togethers on Saturdays from time to time.

3. Our first event will take place on April 7-8. Location and name TBA. The centerpiece of the event will be a feast. Venison will most likely be on the menu, along with fresh baked bread and honey butter. There'll be a full weekend of battlegames, a long quest with a swell prize, a raffle, and a period games tournament with a nifty prize. There'll also be art/sci classes of some sort. Now all we have to do is find the money to host. It doesn't take a deck of Tarot cards to prophesize that shire members will be fronting a fair amount of guilders and ducats to be reimbursed afterwards.

4. Now I know the error of my ways -- it's the chancellor, not regent, who will be elected at midreign elections on February 23.

5. Maria assured me that the shire newsletter, The Tempest, will be ready and published for the Feb. 23 shire populace meeting. I've submitted a couple of things. As for the rest of you, please give her something. I'd like for the webpage version of The Tempest to include a photo of each of you to appear along with a caption underneath. Sort of like a yearbook. Just for this first issue so visitors to our site can see who you are.

6. One of these days, Lord knows when, I'll actually get around to teaching some of those period games. I'm anxious to start playing Blacke Trump again.

7. Kitirat and Joli are at Hoggetowne this weekend. Just couldn't do it myself, time was too short. Anyway, Both of them and everyone else at the Althing said they'd like to volunteer at the Ringling Faire in a month. I passed out the volunteer sign-up forms.

8. I wonder if we will be able to cast enough people and have enough rehearsal time for putting on the Sir Gervaise and the Forest of Opposite Appearances and Sir Basil and the Scottish Sheep skits. Talstar and Siobhan over in Shining South (or is it Silverwater) have expressed interest, but how to rehearse the blocking with them? Can I cast Sir Basil from Falling Fire?

9. I discovered that my banks notarize things for free. There's a duh! I should have picked up on sooner. I signed and had three copies of the contract for forming the shire notarized. I sent one to the Amtgard BOD in San Antonio, sent one to Origami, our formidable Neverwinter Prime Minister, and kept one for my files.
