The Sorrowful Mysteries
THE FIVE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES
The Sorrowful Mysteries help us to think of Mary’s great sorrow
when
Jesus suffered for our salvation. They are;
1. The Agony of Jesus in the Garden
2. The Scourging of Jesus at the Pillar
3. The Crowning of Jesus with Thorns
4. Jesus Carries His Heavy Cross
5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus
We recall how Jesus is kneeling in a secluded spot and sees before
Him
the many and horrible sins men have committed.
He prays and suffers, and a bloody sweat issues from
His pores and trickles down to the ground.
In hours of trouble and loneliness, I will pray with that same spirit
of resignation:
"Father, not my will but Thine be done."
MARY, Dear Mother of Sorrows, I thank you for all you have suffered
with
Jesus for the love of me when in agony He sweat blood as He saw
my sins.
Give me true sorrow for my sins, which have hurt Jesus
so much.
We pray this mystery to be always resigned to God's Holy Will.
Our Father, ten Hail Marys, Glory be and the Fatima Ejaculation.
We recall how the soldiers carry out their bloody work on Jesus.
How limitless is His patience, no word escapes His lips.
No sacrifice is too great for Him to save my soul,
He can scarcely endure more and falls to the ground covered with
His own Blood.
MARY, dear
Mother of Sorrows, I than your for all you have suffered with Jesus
for love of me when He scourged by the soldiers until His body was
torn with wounds.
Let me never
hurt Jesus by any evil word or deed.
I beg you to keep my body pure and my soul holy.
We pray this mystery to merit the grace never to sin against holy purity.
Our Father, ten Hail Marys, Glory be and the Fatima Ejaculation.
We recall how Jesus is crowned with thorns, presented to the people
with the words:
"Behold this poor man!" Jesus looks upon the people and awaits their
compassion,
but they cried: "Away with Him, Crucify Him!"
What bitter disappointment are these words for Jesus.
MARY, dear Mother of Sorrows, I thank you for all you have suffered
with Jesus
for love of me when Pilate’s soldiers force a crown of sharp thorns
upon his head,
struck Him, and laughed at Him. Help me never to hurt Jesus
by bad thoughts.
We pray this mystery to fight against our pride and be humble always with the humble Jesus.
Our Father, ten Hail Marys, Glory be and the Fatima Ejaculation.
We recall how Jesus carries on wounded shoulders His heavy Cross.
Three times He falls to the ground, so heavy do my sins weigh upon
His Cross.
Thereby He shows me how often I relapse into sin, especially into
the same sins.
MARY, dear Mother of Sorrows, I thank you for all you have suffered
with Jesus
for the love of me when you met Him carrying his cross to Calvary.
You saw Jesus fall three times beneath the heavy cross.
Help me to carry cheerfully every cross, which God may send
me.
We pray this mystery to ask for the grace to deny ourselves often, to take up our cross daily, and to follow Jesus.
We recall how Jesus is nailed to the Cross, Rough nails are driven
through His hands and feet.
From His lips comes only that sincere prayers:
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Jesus is Divine Love in the midst of the hate of this world.
We pray this mystery that Jesus may not forsake us in the hour of our death.
Our Father, ten Hail Marys, Glory be and the Fatima Ejaculation.
