We were going to leave on Sunday from Burlington going south but the weather turned nasty.  We had 30 mph winds and threats of a tornado.  I went to two movies and Mona one.  I wished I had joined her because I saw the Woody Allen film. After dinner we returned to the boat and there was little or no wind. This morning when I tried to start Snug she said no. I reasoned that the fuel system clogged due to the 30mph winds stirring up the fuel tank.  The marina where we were had no wind protection. I switched the fuel filter system to standby and Snug started.  We are now in Whitehall, NY 70 some miles later. We will be here for a few days getting the new oil cooler installed. We had several hours of fog we couldn't see 25 feet in front of the boat.  Between our radar, depth sounder and GPS we "saw" well enough.

Yesterday was my middle daughter, Jill's birthday.  We spent it installing the new oil cooler.  We were at one of our favorite places, Whitehall at the Liberty Eatery.  Susan and Frank have hundreds of antiques and are fun people. We arrived at Ft Edward Town Terminal at 1030am.  If it sounds familiar it is as we are retracing our steps heading for Norfolk, Va.  We will be here for 3 days probably.  The next 3 places are free and we will be in NYC July 9 and 10.

6-29-00

We moved 30 miles south to Mechanicville, NY on the town terminal.  The computer will not send email and there is a computer store here.  If you receive this soon you will know the problem has been solved.  We are planning our schedule to arrive in NYC on July 9 and spend a little as possible for overnight tie ups.  When we leave the Champlain Canal we lose free dock space.  Mechanicville has a three day limit so we might go back to Ft Edwards.

6-30-00

Well we are back in business.  The computer repairman here said the modem was no good.  Since I had just purchased it 3 weeks ago we rented a car and drove to Amsterdam, NY where I bought the modem.  The repairman there said the tab that holds the modem in was not properly shut thus not making a good connection.  It worked at his office.  The test will be tomorrow when I send this message.  We decided to keep the rented car thru the 4th.  We will view sites around here and go to movies, The Patriot and the Perfect Storm. We are hoping to remain here in Mechanicville although there is a 3 day limit.  Mona is sweet talking the caretaker. We like it here but then we have liked almost all the towns on the canal. With free dockage and free electricity and water it is an inexpensive summer.

7-2-00

Today I turned 70. We drove to Troy and Albany, NY.  The architecture is very different here in New England.  Age and industrial development made for the difference.  We asked a State Trooper for directions to a Starbucks.  He followed us the 10 miles to make certain we got where we wanted.  It was one of the better Starbucks.  It was like sitting in your home library reading the Sunday paper. We went to West Marine and Wallmark and returned to the boat where we watched tennis on TV and I took my pm nap. It has been a good day.

7-5-00
We have left the New York Canal System.  Left Waterford this morning after Leo returned the rental car and made about 77 miles down the Hudson to Hyde Park arriving about 6:15pm.    It was a beautiful day!  Things look different when viewed from the north heading south.  We saw many homes that we had not noticed on the way north.    Off to dinner.  I am being treated(again!) to dinner out.  This being crew has pretty good benefits.

7-8-00

We spent two days in Croton on the Hudson visiting friends, Jan and Burt.  We took Burt and nephew to West Point on Snug and toured the campus.  Today we brought them with us to Liberty Landing Marina by the Statute of Liberty across from the World Trade Center on Manhattan.  They took the train back to their home in Westchester county.  We plan to on the 11th go to the New Jersey Waterway.
