Is Burori good or evil?
This inquiry is not as simple to answer as it sounds. I must warn you now that I am a student of Philosophy so such musings are typical for me.
As far as Burori's history goes, we all know that he was driven insane when he was a baby by the wailing of Son Goku (Kakarot) when he and Broli were crib neighbors of sorts at the hospital where both were born. Burori now harbors an instinctual hatred of Goku which drives him to seek out Goku and destroy him.
So far, no problems. I accept the facts. But let us press on:
In order to control his son, Paragus binds him with restraints (which just look like jewelry but in fact allow Burori to be controlled and brainwashed). He then uses his son to further his own ambitions by sending him out to cause havoc in the universe.
At this point, Burori has thus far been the victim of poor circumstances (being in the same room with Goku at the hospital) and a madman's tool. Neither of these events were instigated or desired by Burori; he was given no choice in the matter of his sanity or his freedom. This is Burori: born to become insane, fierce and living in a never-ending illusionary world.
Now I must make one last point before the weight of the debate over the nature of Burori's soul can commence:
Even though Burori is insane this is no indication of a fundamentally good or evil character. Afterall, it's not as if he intentionally hates the hero, Goku. The lack of having made a free decision in that regard, in my opinion, saves him from taking responsibility for his hate, seeing as how he was completely innocent of the circumstances which produced it.
Now, in movie #8, Burori does inflict pain on innocent bystanders (the Shamo slaves when he destroys their home planet), but I have to wonder if he is deliberately cruel because he's in SSJ form or if his cruelty runs deeper. For example, in movie #8, Burori is a quiet, reserved, obedient young man (even in the flash-backs there's a hint of this before Paragus puts the restraints on him).
For me, it is hard to say for sure that he is evil. Even though he tells Piccolo that he is the devil and destroys a planet (which probably would have been destroyed by the approaching comet anyway), I can't use that as evidence that he is evil. Does he say that and do that because of his insanity or because he is evil through and through and would have done the same things if he had had complete possession of his faculties for his entire life?
So that leaves us with only speculation and bits of clues to go on.
