So Chelsea have won the premiership and have already celebrated after their game with Charlton. They won it 1-0 thanks to a goal from makelele, his 1st for Chelsea to round off a great day. Chelsea's hopes of winning the quadruple dissapeared when Newcastle beat them in the FA cup and Liverpool knocked them out of the champions league in the semis.
The Bottom
Crystal Palace, Southampton, Norwich and West Brom are all still in danger of getting relegated. All 4 of those teams struggle to hold on to the lead when they get it and so their best chances of getting 3 points will be aganst each other. It is sooo close now with just the single game left. Can Saints beat Man U? Will Norwich win relegating all the other 3? Are Crystal Palace or West brom still able to get safe? We'll soon find out.
End of the Season
It was one of the most exciting battles for relegation of the premiership as all 4 of the bottom teams were safe at some time on Sunday. In the end though West Brom stayed up thanks to a 2-0 victory at Portsmouth while the other teams failed to win. Middlesbrough, Bolton and Liverpool are in the UEFA cup next year, while Chelsea, Arsenal, Man. UTD and Everton are in the champions league. Southampton end 27 years of top-flight football as they, Norwich; last year's coca-cola championship winners and Crystal Palace; who got to the premiership via the play offs last season are relegated. They will be replaced by Sunderland, Wigan and the play offs winners.
Leo's Season Verdict
The suprises of the season: ~ Everton were one of the favourites to be relegated this season after struggling last season and selling Wayne Rooney to Manchester UTD. However they have been in the top 4 almost all season and have now earnt themselves Champions League qualification at Liverpool's expense.
~ Yet again with a small budget Sam Allardyce has shocked people and this time he has found decent players and got Bolton into Europe despite people saying they were long-ball.
~ Newcastle sacked Bobby Robson early into the season for poor results and because the players disrespected them. In came the babysitter: Graeme Souness. He was a bit meaner with the players but has upset Kluivert, Bellamy, Robert and others. Because of this Newcastle finished 14th. their worst in the premiership.
~ Southampton have been in the top division for 27 years and had survived many scares before so there seemed no reason why they would go down this year. They had been finishing mid-table for 4 years and 2 years ago reached the FA cup final. Lowe became a serial manager killer though and many managers had nightmares about him. 1st he sacked Sturrock after 3 points from 2 games. Then he appointed Wigley (Stuart Gray in disguise). That didn't work so Wigley left and Redknapp came in. He just got depressed and Southampton finished bottom. = <THE END>
