Match report: It was a 'friendly' match but most people were treating it like a world cup match. Would England win and prove themselves World Cup contenders or lose and call a national disaster?

England struggled to get into the match with Argentinia showing a display of their skills. Paul Robinson was forced to make some spectacular saves from Tevez and Riquelme but England came back into the game. A great ball was place onto Owen's head and he got it past the Argentinian keeper and into the net, only to see the linesmans flag raise - offside. Luke Young got the ball into his own net but it was a foul by Crespo on him. England then conjured a superb counter attack a few minutes later. Gerrard, who was playing well, ran down the left and made a great pass to put Rooney through on goal. Rooney made a deft shot across the keeper that was going in but curled away from goal and onto the post.

Despite all this Argentinia then scored. Rodriquez ran past Bridge and passed a ball ito the box. 3 Argentinians were there and Crespo got his leg to the ball and bundled it in. England kept improving though with some good build up play. A ball was crossed into the box that Beckham got a head to, laying it off for Rooney to simply pass the ball past keeper. 1-1 at half time. England were stunned after 54 minutes. Riquelme passed rather than shot his free kick and found Walter Samuel free, who headed home from a tight angle.

Lampard's shooting was off form as he missed some great chances by a few inches. England changed to an attacking 4-4-2 introducing Joe Cole and then in desperation brought on Crouch in a 3-4-3 formation. Eventually it paid off with Owen sneaking in at the far post to torment argentinia again. 2-2! England fans were in ecstasy, Argentinia was shocked. It didn't stop there with England and Argentinia missing chances to win. The game was almost over when a Joe Cole cross was attacked by crouch and Owen. Owen got his head to it and scored again.

A fantastic perfomance and result for England. 3-2 to the champions?
