Fantasy VS. Reality
It is being said that the rap industry is all nothing but fame and glory. Everything that you hear is not what it is cracked up to be. Ya'll watch videos thinking that what you are watching is reality, and that's what the producers that invest thier money want you to think. But in reality, all of the material stuff is just rented. Alot of the jewels look all pretty and nice, but at the end of the day it's all going back to the store. Rap artist that create the videos put out a false image of theirselves to their fans. Many young kids get influenced by all the money, jewels, and girls that is viewed in the videos.
You watch rap music videos thinking that everything you see is owned by your favorite rappers. The life that they live in the videos is not real all the time. Most of the things that appear in the videos are either rented or owned by someone else most of the time. Major stars represent themselves in the media as being "big time ballers", when in reality they are living the same way that we are living. The youth glorify rap artists for their fame, money, and talent. Several adolescents think that it is easy to get to the top as a rap artist, but in reality it takes raw talent and hard work to get to the top. The rap business is currupt, and people try to get over on people that don't know anything about the business.
The kids who are watching music videos are affected mentally and physically by the images of wealth, sex, violence, and drugs. Mentally teens are forced to be follower's and think like the way the media wants them to think. "Hip-Hop is the culture of America's urban youth, It's a way of dressing, speaking, and behaving, all with an in your face attitude."(excerpt from Black Enterprise Mag) All of the loud beats and hard lyrics get the teens intoxicated, and causes their minds to flip. "In some cases, the music portrays the darker side of urban life, glorifying violence, materialism, illegal activities, and misogyny."(from Black Enterprise Mag)
The sheer power of the Hip-Hop Economy is that a product can become a top seller simply by being mentioned in a tune. As the main attraction of buying habits in the main stream media, rap artists have great pull over the consumers. Several different products are promoted by the rap industry. For example the recently featured Sprite comercial had clips of past rappers lyricizing about Sprite. The Sprite advertisements are becoming more and more interactive between races. |
