Happy Days Are Here Again

~Introduction

This story began during spring break in 1999. The idea came to me while riding in a car with a friend on the way to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Until then, I had been studying World War II off and on for nearly ten years. The early 1940's has been a great interest for me, so I decided to write a story abou that time. Before that, I had attempted to write a story that took place in the early 1960's (around the time of President Kennedy's death), unfortunately it fell through. The same goes for a story I wrote in eighth grade that took place during the Great Depression. Both of those stories seemed to never get anywhere...so I put them aside and began to focus on this one.

Once the creative juices started flowing, the idea for Happy Days Are Here Again came fairly quickly. I've used this story for two creative writing classes and showed it to several "older" family members and friends. Now, I would like to share it with you.

So, sit back and take a trip back to 1944 in a small town called Pennington, Illinois.
