Why GenCon is so Darned Cool
![]() |
1. Compliments from Guys - Gamers are usually guys. Usually geeky guys that rarely make conversation with females. When they see girls at a convention, they're all over themselves to be polite and complimentary and stuff. It's a real ego boost. 2. Safe House Restaurant - This is the coolest restaurant. Check out the link. And, no, I don't know the password. We'll have to hula-hoop or do push ups together... 3. Neat Stuff to Buy - dice, t-shirts, comic books, jewelry, minis, artwork, ren-fair clothes, posters, books, glassware, videos, buttons and pins, card games, coloring books, basically anything remotely related to gaming, sci fi or fantasy. 4. Artwork to Look at - There are a lot of talented artists that bring stuff to the con. It's all cool. 5. Neat Games to Play - roleplaying games, card games, dice games, kids' games, guessing games, all sorts of games. 6. Interesting People - People that actually get into character for whatever outfit they're wearing. You know the type... 7. Celebrities - I didn't actually check this out last year, but I know they were there signing autographs. Mostly tv and movie actors from sci fi and fantasy shows. 8. Activities to do - seminars, book signings, scavenger hunts, nearby shopping mall and restaurants, book readings 9. Comic Books to Read - lots of 'em 10. Costume Contest - self explanatory 11. Seminars by Authors, Game Designers and Artists - also lots
My Favorites from Last Year
1. Fluxx - The coolest card game ever. You will play it this summer. Aquarius, too. 2. Knights of the Dinner Table booth - The funniest gaming comic books ever. If you like role playing games or role playing gamers, you'll love it. 3. Reaper Minis booth - They make the best female miniatures. They actually look like girls, and they're fully clothed to boot. 4. Hanging out with my boyfriend in an environment where he was having a ton of fun, and we were sharing it. 5. Safehouse - Even though I didn't know the password, it was fun hula hooping and exploring all the little nooks and crannies. 6. Taking tons of pictures - People love it when you approach them and ask to take their picture. Little kids in awesome costumes, adults in awesome costumes... you get the picture.
