L-I: Moderator's note
List,
Many have asked me, both on another list and privately, why did I get
so angry on the Owen Jones - Maja Nikolic issue. Most people there
considered me a macho step father who was trying to keep her "family"
protected against the hardnesses of real life (to say it the best way
it can be said). Well, no.
What has really happened was that I discovered that an L-I list
member does not share the standards of integrity and seriousness that
we are expected to share. I am prescindent as to the reasons behind
this attitude, which may all be very valid. But the fact is that I
discovered a comrade of this list distorting the political views of a
person I know very well, whose ideas I know very well, in order to
find some "local" support to his theses on another country, a country
which by the way is under aggression by the imperialist regime (and I
use the term in the strict English deprecative sense) in his country,
a regime where the Labour party is a central piece.
And this, as an L-I moderator, I cannot accept. I decided to
investigate the situation, and have discovered at least two
additional facts (one of them I had guessed before the
investigation).
The first one, was that this list member, Owen Jones, not only had
sent misleading mail to the Marxism list on the political ideas of
the Yugoslav "left" by quoting personal communications as if they
were political statements (the very tactics used by our enemies to,
for example, brand Marx an Anti-Semite), but also he had been
spreading mails of the same kind all over Western Europe, absolutely
unknown of course by the person whose mails were thus used in a way
this person WOULD HAVE NEVER ALLOWED.
The second one was that Maja Nikolic has the best opinion of the
ideas that Owen Jones has tried to fight by misquoting her. And that
this Yugoslav "leftist" as Owen Jones has defined her, or Yugoslav
citizen aware of her duty as I would rather prefer, wanted me to
publicly state what her actual political views are.
I have made up my mind on this case, and I must regretfully announce
that I feel forced to unsubscribe Owen Jones from L-I, which
hopefully will bring him down to earth as to how must one manage
information and what does the word integrity mean.
An Argentinian revolutionary, Mariano Moreno, stated as far back as
1810 that no revolutionary can falter, be he drunken or asleep, to
the duties of revolutionary action. On mailing lists, where we are
what we write, the first and basic duty is not to do what Owen has
done on this sad case.
I am also attaching the statement by Maja Nikolic to this posting,
as a demonstration of how far Owen Jones has gone with his
misinformation. And also as a kind of public satisfaction for damages
made on Maja Nikolic, to whom I am forwarding this e-mail.
Here is the voice of Maja Nikolic:

About that quarrel on your list, well, I really
didn't have idea at all what is happening. I didn't have time to
write to Owen maybe 2-3 months. And I had no idea that he sent my
mails to the list, I feel a little unpleasant. I don't remember what
I wrote and what was it about, but those were definitely personal
mails. And certainly I wouldn't write them in the manner I usually do
if I knew that they would be published. I would take care much more
about the way of expressing things, in personal exchanges you feel
much more free to write things.
Yes you are right I don't belong to any political organization, and I
express only my personal views. I still work very passionately on
Resistance web site, that is for free of course and because I believe
in that idea. But all the members of the team, they are of different
political opinions, and from different countries. Even your friend
Tony Abdo is contributing:) Why I do that is written on the entry
page of our site:
"This year, Western countries killed 2 000 Yugoslav civilians,
destroyed a country, an ideal, isolated a whole nation, and put in
power a criminal organization called the KLA in Kosovo. This year,
during the month of July alone 10 000 Iraqis died as a result of the
economic blockade, amongst which were 7 300 children. This year, the
New World Order continued to transform human beings into beasts,
sinking them into individualistic materialism and cynicism. This
year, the gap between the rich and the poor has increased, and
indifference, nonsense and silliness have developed. This year again,
culture, solidarity, and all the values that constitute the nobility
of human condition have been turned into stupid fetishes by the free
market economy. Today, we can no longer keep quiet. By remaining
silent we become accomplices of such barbarity and this we refuse to
be."
So we are not Marxist by definition although there are Marxist among
us, but also socialists, anarcho-liberals etc. Me, myself, I am just
a woman who thinks with her own brain, and I like some ideas from
various ideologies, but I can not put myself in any branch.
Icertainly can not defend Albanians and KLA and tell that I am on
their side. Too many atrocities and too many scenarios with the
cooperation of NATO and West is made there on Kosovo, and naive
people believe that Albanians are just poor people who are fighting
for their own freedom. They are used by West in other purposes, and
they accepted that because they dream of Greater Albania for hundred
years. So they used the right moment, there is nothing to do with
human rights, or something similar and every man in this country
knows that. I can have personal relations with some Albanians as I do
and I have, but globally I can not defend their way of acting last
ten years, and especially in the last year since KFOR came on Kosovo.
I think that you know very well my personal and political opinion
about the situation. And thank you very much because I don't want to
be presented anywhere in a wrong way, especially my mails which were
personal.
