Vladimir Ilyich Lenin
(1870-1924) was born in Simbirsk, Russia on the 22nd of April 1870.
After graduating from a middle school in 1887, he went to Kazansky
University to study law. He was later expelled from the University,
arrested and banished for his participation in revolutionary activities.
A year later, he came back and started to study the works written by
Marx and Engels and joined the Marxist group there. In 1895, Lenin
organized the League of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working
Class by getting various Marxist groups together. Lenin started to
engage himself in extensive investigations of the economic situation in
Russia, analyze the classes in the Russian society and wrote many works.
He founded a party called the Bolsheviks, led the first revolution in
Russia in 1905 and succeeded in the great October Socialist Revolution
in Russia in 1917. |
