On 7 November 1917, the workers, peasants and soldiers of Russia, under the leadership of the Bolshevik Party, succeeded in a socialist revolution by overthrowing the provisional government headed by A. F. Kerensky, and established a Soviet political power. At the same time, the Second All Soviet Congress was held and passed the "Peace Decree" and "Land Decree", Lenin was elected Chairman of the first Soviet government. The first socialist country on earth was thus born.

There are four stamps in the set.

Stamp b. is entitled the October Revolution. It is in red and carries a painting of "The Political Power Belongs to the Soviet and Peace to the People" painted by a famous Soviet painter Serov. This is a historic painting of the October Revolution and it depicts a scene in which Lenin delivered a speech at the Second All Soviet Congress at Petrograd at 22:45 on 7 November 1917.

Stamp c. is entitled "The Building of Communism". It carries a picture of Stalin's statue standing at the entrance to the Lenin Canal, a statue sculptured by a Soviet sculpture. It is in blue.

Stamp d. shows Stalin delivering a speech. It has a design of Stalin's bust and a slogan: "We support and are committed to peace".

There is another set of misprinted stamps with the same pictures. The stamps were printed and issued in 1952. After it was found that there were printing mistakes, their issuance was stopped and those which had already been issued were ordered to be returned. However, there were still a few which have never been returned. Once the mistakes were corrected, they were reprinted and issued. But the color is different.
