Description of Lee Side
Lee side is located on a hill where you can see many parts of the trail. If you look to your left, you could see the beach so calm. If you look to your right, you could see the Jack pines flourish across the land. This is where you can see the hop tree. A hop tree can be distinguish by its leaves. If you take a leaf from this plant and crush it, it has a distinct smell.

Nativity: This plant is native to Eastern and Central United States.
Conditions: The hop tree needs open wooded areas and a pH level from 6 to 8. It is usually easily grown in average, dry to medium wet conditions.
Practical Uses: Seeds are produced in late spring that wild life uses as food for the upcoming winter.
Foliage: The hop tree has dark green leaves which are usually about 2-5'' long. They turn a greenish yellow color near the fall time.
Fruit: White flowers appear in the late spring time. Carrion flies pollinate the flowers. Then the flowers produce a seed that is tin and circular in shape.
Bark: The young bark is reddish-brown with numerous conspicuous lenticels, and the mature bark is dark gray, rough and scaly.
