| 286 Year of Corvalis Arnor 4: Aidan Swan, soldier in the Corvalian army, arrives in Fort Drevin where he awaits his placement in the battle against the peoch. Due to a mix up in his orders he is required to wait for a day for his assignment. Arnor 5: Aidan is assigned to "The Drakes". Scouts for the Second Infantry. The Drakes include Sgt. Karyk, Kip, Lucan and Pran. Arnor 6-7: The Drakes run to the Second Armies field base. Arnor 8: The Drakes run into a small group of peoch and easily defeated them. Arnor 9-15: The Drakes investigate a strange ruin which appears to be held by the Peoch. They encounter Peoch who wield metal weapon and wear chain mail armour. They recruit Taru, a healer for the Second Infantry. While exiting the ruin The Drakes were attacked by a strange creature which killed Parn before it was killed. The remaining Drakes returned to the field base where they were informed by Captain Bolan that he would be unable to get them reinforcements that Karyk was requsting. Bolan also stated that he thought his assistant Neka could not be trusted. Following Parn's funeral Karyk was informed that the Drakes would be disbanded and Lucan and Aidan were to return to Fort Drevin for reassignment. Upon arriving at Fort Drevin Lucan and Aidan are both promoted to Sergeant. Lucan is to command a scouting group in the Third Infantry and Aidan is assigned to be constable of the Village of Tern's Gap. They then hear rumour that Captain Bolan has been killed and it is suspected that Karyk and Kip killed him. Taru arrives in Fort Drevin and is to return to the Tevan Abbey. He and Aidan agree to travel together. Morvil 4: Taru and Aidan arrive in Tern's Gap. Morvil 5: In the middle of the night Aidan and the stableboy Morry, battle with the goblinoids, led by the hobgoblin Zarx. They learn that a local hero, Braford Hucrele has been captured by goblins. Zarx and all the goblins but one flee into the forrest. Sgt. Jessup, the former constable of Tern's Gap sneaks out of town in the early morning. Aidan discovers that Neka is staying in Tern's Gap. Braford's grandfather asks Aidan to find Braford and agrees to pay any ransom to the goblins. Morvil 6: Aidan, Morry and Taru travel to the goblin's citadel led by the captured gobin (which promptly gets away, runs into a pit trap and dies). They discover a tribe of Kobolds and agree to help them find their missing dragon(!?). The kobold Meepo travels with the party, but remains in the citadel when they return to Tern's Gap. Quillian (a monk with the order of Eichlau) Trilon (a druid), and Ty Hucrele (the somewhat untrustworthy brother of Braford Hucrele) arrive in Tern's gap. Quillion is seeking information regarding a sword the Braford has obtained. They meet Aidan's party and after some discussion agree to assist them in finding Braford and his group. That night Trilon disappears with Morry. Ty sets up a meeting between Zarx and Aidan, Taru and Quillian. Morvil 7: Aidan, Morry, Quillian, Trilon and Taru return to the Citadel. They battle many goblins and some other nasties. They remain overnight in the Citadel. Morvil 8: Aidan, Morry, Quillian, Trilon and Taru rescue Theros and the Chinaguk, Garth from a goblin prison. Something happens and the whole Citadel shakes as if the very earth is crying out in pain. They exit the Citadel to return to Tern's Gap (Theros is in rough shape). They find that their horses have been butchered. They also meet Myras, servant to Tristanin. Myras leaves with Trilon. When the rest of the party arrive back in Tern's Gap they discover that goblins have raided and killed Luth, the priest. Aidan is now reluctant to return to the Citadel but Trilon reappears to say that she will be leaving. She also gets Tristanin to agree to protect the village from goblins until Aidan returns. Taru decides to remain in the village. Morvil 9: Aidan, Morry, Ty, Quillian and Garth return to the Citadel. They discover the kolbold's dragon and are able to subdue it and return it to Yusdrayl, the kobold queen. The kobolds reward the party with several items including a key. The party continues exploring and finds the goblin village. A huge battle ensues ending in Quillian's death at the sword of the Hobgoblin chief Durnn, just before Durnn himself is killed by Aidan. Goblin civilians are locked up into the goblin prison. The party does a quick search of the area and discovers a trapped hallway to the kobold's area. Aidan informs the kobolds that he claims the goblin's area in the name of King Igol II. The kobolds decide to start charging a toll for access to this area. The party returns to town with Quillian's body. Outside of town they see a boar's head stuck to a tree with a dagger. Ty is beginning to feel ill. They learn Sir Yancy, Knight of Corvalis has arrive in Tern's Gap. Morvil 10: Ty slips away into the night. Aidan follows a white owl into the woods hoping to find Tristanin. Instead he meets Rowen. A secretive old man who proclaims he is interest in the well being of Tern's Gap. Rowen gives Aidan a gift and tells him he will summon Tristanin for him. As Aidin makes his way back to town he comes upon Myras, who threatens to kill Aidan if he draws his weapon in Tristanin's presence. She then leads Aidan deep into the woods to Tristanin. The druid informs Aidan that Belak, the druid in the Citadel, is no longer a concern to him and that there is something taking place in the east where he has sent Trilon. Aidan asks Tristanin to protect Tern's Gap for three more days Tristanin agree to do so only if Aidan agree to help him in the future. Aidan reluctantly agrees. Aidan then asks if the druid can bring Quillian back to life. Tristanin says he could but due to the nature of the magic Quillian could come back in a much different form. Tristanin agrees to take the body and think on whether he would do anything. Whatever he decided he said he would never tell Aidan. Ty returns and reports that he has met with Zarx, and that he hobgoblin claims that he was not responsible for the death of Luth, that it was the Broken Skull goblins, a new tribe to the area. More interesting is that Zarx said that the Broken Skull tribe was sent by tattooed face humans. Zarx agreed to help get revenge against the Broken Skull tribe in return for the right to use the citadel as a lair. Ty agreed. Sir Yancy was displeased by the fact that Sgt. Aidan was not in town when he arrive especially considering the recent goblin raid. Aidan made things worse by demanding that Sir Yancy prove he was indeed a Knight of Corvalis. Sir Yancy shows a letter from King Igol granting Yancy the barony of Tern's Gap and he informs Aidan that he is now a member of his guard and his captain of the guard will be arriving in the next few days. Aidan is not happy with this news but decides to stay on. News is also relayed by Yancy that Prince Kayel was married to Mara and they will be expecting a child in the fall. He then receives a message that someone wishes to meet him at the edge of town. It turns out to be Karyk, who admits to having killed Captain Balor and reports that he suspect Neka was behind some plot back on the plains. Karyk says him and Kip (who he is to meet in Malus) are being hunted but that him and Kip are looking for someone who he doesn't want to reveal until he has more information. Karyk also reports that there was an assassination attempt on Lucan. Lucan has now left the military and sought out Eridan, the homeland of the Mauriel religion. At the end of this busy day a young soldier by the name of Mort arrives in town with orders to report to Aidan for further orders. Aidan finds him a place to stay. Planning to return to the Citadel after Luth's funeral the next day. Morvil 11: Luths funeral was held just after breakfast. Taru presided over the ceremony and Mayor Parn spoke at it. Rowen also made an appearance which caused many murmurs from those gathered. Aidan asked Taru to keep an eye on Mort while he was gone which the priest agreed to do. Aidan, Morry, Ty, and Garth then returned to the Citadel and continued searching its lower level. They battle many nastys. Of note Ty and Aidan get into an argument. Morvil 12:Party camps in the lower level. They defeat a shadow and a few other things. That shadow drains Garth of some strength. They discover the location of Belak and decide to rest up before tackling him. Morvil 13: Big battle. Belak is killed. Braford and Sharwyn were turned into trees by Belak and were under his control. They were killed by the party but not before Braford cut Aidans magic morningstar and shortsword in half. The party also found a map to the Chinaguk stronghold of Khundrukar. The party goes upstairs and grant the kobolds control of the whole Citadel for there passage out. Aidan wants to check out one last area in the upper level, but Ty thinks it is a waste of time and leaves. They encounter a glowing spear that makes real bad music and scares Aidan away. The party then decides to return to Terns Gap. Aidan goes and tells Kerowyn Hucrele about Brafords fate and returns the 200 gps. He includes that Ty helped with the rescue attempt.. Kerowyn thanks Aidan, says that Ty has come to visit and asks Aidan to leave. Morvil 14: Morry casts an identification spell on some of the items found in the citadel. This takes most of the day. They learn that the sword that Braford carried is name God Slayer. Aidan offers to accompany Garth to Khundrukkar. Morvil 15: In the middle of the night it is discovered that Kerowyn Hucrele is dead. Cause of death is unknown. Aidan and gang meets with Zarx and notifies him that he is unable to make a descision as to whether Zarx can move into the Citadel. Zarx gets mad and leaves. Aidan, Morry and Garth return to the Citadel and explore on final part on the upper level. They get into a big fight against some kind of troll/dragon priest but win out in the end. They return to Tern's Gap and find out that Captain Roald has arrived. Morvil 16: First thing in the morning Aidan met with Captain Roald. The meeting went well and Aidan gave Roald a tour of Tern's Gap. On the tour a tupeti named Renaldo approached and asked if either of them knew the location of his friend Shebaz who was in Tern's Gap going to parliamentarian school. Roald went off to meet with Parn and Aidan was going to help Renaldo. At this time Tern's Gap was attacked by crazed goblins. Two major battles took place; one at the north bridge and the other at the church. The goblins were intent on killing Taru but were eventually beaten back. While retreating they grabbed Renaldo and carried him off. Shebaz, who was at the church battle wanted to go find his old friend. Aidan, Morry, Garth and Shebaz (the party) tried but were unable to track the goblins to their lair. Two goblins who were captured killed each other in captivity. That night a merchant staying at The Broad Sword who heard what happened said the same thing had happened at Westgate but it was Gareth who attacked. Morvil 17: The party met in the morning at The Broad Sword. While forming a plan they are shaken by an earthquake. There is little damage but nothing serious. The party decides to visit Zarx at the Citadel and see if they can get a location of the Broken Skull (or Red Skull) goblins. Zarx appears to have moved into the Citadel and brags that he has a dragon. He tells the location of the Broken Skull lair in return for Aidan finding a buyer for the goblin (Aidan bargained for 33% of the sale price). The party finds the lair later that afternoon. Morvil 18: After watching the entrance throughout the night the party attacked at dawn. They manage to fight their way through to the first guard post without much trouble. Aidan hits a goblin with a perfect blow and feels his sword suck some of his life out of him. The party follows footprints through some tight passages and eventually find themselves at one end of a bridge over a dark chasm... Things Suddenly Get Confusing Morvil 18 The party crossed the subterraneous bridge which spanned a large underground lake. Half way across the were rocked by another tremor. During the tremor Shabaz and Aidan received mental messages from Rowen, warning, The Hunter is near! and We were betrayed. On the far side of the bridge they discovered a large room full of Goblin warriors. The party ran into battle. In the corner of the room, awakened by the tremor an Elf (?!) decided which side to take in the battle. The Elf (Torrel) decided to come in on the side of the party and the Goblins were beaten back. Torrel they discover has amnesia and is not sure how he got here. He is covered in tattoos of different types and the mere fact that he is an Elf is weird enough. Aidan makes a point of letting none of this impress him. At this time they are rocked by a second, much stronger earthquake. Aidan and Shabaz both get much stronger messages from Rowen (Go west! and Beware the false messenger!) and the crystal that the Master Sorcerer gave Aidan shatters. Through the dark they hear a voice calling for Torrel, asking if he is all right and saying that they are now trapped as the emerald has broken. The speaker steps forward and is seen to be a Peoch (Palyar Roach). Aidan is immediately suspicious of Roach and Roach recognized Aidan and even knew his name. A tense conversation follows in which the following is learned: -Torrel, Roach and Kip were sent to accomplish different missions by Furic -Roach was sent to kill Priests of Wyffren in the Western March. He said they were evil. -Furic said that Torrel could be adversely affected by the magic that sent them -they were trapped because the emerald was broken in the earthquake -Roach told the Goblins to grab any Tupeti they found in Terns Gap on their raid (hoping it would be Shabaz). Renaldo was grabbed by mistake. When it was discovered that this was not Shabaz, Roach wanted nothing more to do with him and the Goblins killed Renaldo (Garth confirmed that Renaldo was dead) -in an attempt to deflect Aidans suspicions Roach said he knew Karyk and that Karyk said Aidan should trust Roach. -in response to Aidans boasting that he had killed many Peoch, Roach pointed out there were different kinds of Peoch, those that used metals and those that did not. Aidan flaunted that he had killed both types. -Roach admitted he was not giving all the information and said it would adversely affect the mission if he revealed too much. Roach finally decided that he would be unable to talk his way past this insane human (Aidan) and decided to make a run for it. Aidan attacked, cutting Roachs two bladed sword in two. Roach tripped Aidan and then ran with Aidan in hot pursuit. They made their way to the edge of the lake and Roach was able to do a 60 running long jump. Aidan decided to give up pursuit. During the conversation Torrel stepped neared to Shabaz and found that one of the tattoos began to itch. He stepped over and touched Shabaz and the tattoo jumped over to the Tupeti. Torrel vaguely recalled that this was a gift from Furic. Aidan returned and it begins to dawn on the party that something bad may have happened to Rowen. They are able to climb out of the caves and return to Terns Gap where they split up. Morry, Garth and Torrel wait outside of town (as to not alert Taru) and Aidan and Shabaz go to Rowens tower. There they find nothing but a huge crater. |
