Wow, it's been a long time since I've had access to internet. Last time I wrote I was still in Rome... Went to Bari to meet Cinzia. I was initially only planning to spend a few days with her but a few days turned into a full week. Turns out her parents own a house on the beach about 70km south of Bari (that's between Bari and Brindisi on the east coast of Italy for those of you who want to know) in a village called Rosa Marina. The beach there was absolutely amazing and it was so nice to just spend the day relaxing at the beach before going out at night. So no real stories to tell about that time just that it was a lot of fun and the little villages in that region are fun to walk around. Did get a chance to see Goran Breckovich in concert which was fun - I hadn't heard of him before but now I like the music.
So on Thursday I decided if I didn't make the effort to leave Italy soon I never would... Bought my ticket for the ferry to Corfu and enjoyed my remaining hours on the Rosa Marina beach. Now I was told the ferry left shore at 20:00. So I was at the dock about an hour before expecting to be allowed on board. Nope - had to wait around for about a half hour first. This was my first clue we weren't going to leave on time. But around 11pm I was wondering why I wasn't feeling any motion. Unless they randomly put a concrete slab in the middle of the Adriatic Sea we were still in Bari. Ugh, I felt like we were never going to leave. But by midnight we were moving. So I spent a fairly miserable night on the ferry deck (much cheaper tickets if you're willing to be on deck). It was raining and cold and I was completely unprepared for this. Many other backpackers were smart and setting up their tents... But I survived.
Got into Corfu in one piece and decided not to go to the Pink Palace (THE place for backpackers to go - it's a resort on the western side of the island). I'm still in the mode of avoiding the crowds. So instead I'm at the resort called Sun Rock also on the west coast. It's pretty nice here - I'm not unhappy. It was, of course, raining yesterday so I didn't do all that much. But today after it quit raining a bunch of us swam out to the actual sun rock (about 500m from shore) and relaxed there for a bit. Just got back in fact and my arms feel like they're going to fall off. But it was definitely worth it. Soon I'll head out to the beach to relax and enjoy the sunset. Definitely enjoying my introduction to Greece!
