Lama Je Tsong Khapa (1357-1419)

Buddha Shakyamuni predicted that Manjushri would later emanate as Je Tsonkhapa. As the Buddha predicted Tsonkhapa was born in Tibet in 1357. It is said that when he was born a drop of his mother's blood fell to the ground and from that spot a tree with very special markings grew. As other trees grew around this original tree mantras of Manjushri could be seen on the leaves. Tsongkhapa studied all the main lineages of the day and after much practice formed a new school of Tibetan Buddhism called Gelugpa.
