Dear Parent or Guardian,

During the next two weeks, our French classes will be studying the history of the French in Louisiana and along with the history of Mardi Gras. The students will be learning about the migration of the French to the region, the traditional music of the region, and the food of the region and the holiday. This project will satisfy several of our state standards and hopefully give the students a better understanding of French culture and history.

Our unit will cumulate in a Mardi Gras feast. Your child will be responsible to bring in a traditional French dish. There are a variety of recipes to choose from. Students may work together as a means of saving money, however they need to each participate in the actual production of the food. Please ask to see the recipe that your child has chosen and if there is a problem ask that they chose another.

The students are also asked to wear the traditional Mardi Gras colors on this day. Please do not feel obligated to buy anything. They may wear green, yellow or purple. If they do not have anything, their grade will not be affected. However, there will be bonus points for participating.

Laissez les bons temps roulez!

Souvienez!
