Rationale
In all of these items, the students are required to
decide on the outcome of the project. For example, in the pizza election
project students do not always find out the same things. The knowledge
that they gain is born out of the project and the events as they unfold.
Students then take what they have learned in their "mini"
election and apply their theories to "real" elections. They
use their experiences to analyze the techniques used in political
campaigns.
Self-Evaluation and Reflection
The projects are valid, however better data records
needs to be kept throughout the process. This will facilitate grading
and overall evaluation of student learning.
How Observed and/or Verified
The staff participated in the pizza elections as voters.
The students produced organizers and wrote journals, discussed and/or
presented their findings. The students also used peer grading on the
research project.
Validation of Student Learning
Student learning was validated through the products
that were produced and discussion.
